it shouldn't be

but you know, there is kind of a history of racism in this country? so we have the voting rights act to counteract it.

i mean ideally shouldn't austin be a district and the shit around it be separate?

people in lavaca county don't have the same needs, wants and desires as city folk

the whole plan was disapproved

whatever is in place for this election is an interim plan. i don't know if that's what you posted or if what you posted was part of the plan that was rejected by the court.

did you even read the links to the articles i posted

here, 2002, what the 25th used to be in pink

the obviously ludicrous shit was struck down sure

but that thing i posted from the national atlas is how it looks now, not after redistricting.

ah yes and proof, this is the redistricted congressional map. the one i posted in the op was for the 110th congress, approved by the judiciary.

that's the one they just struck down, in favor of what goodness knows.

you see the thing above it that clearly says 110th congress? that's 2007 if you're counting at home.

apparently the austin chronicle has been calling it "the pinwheel" since 2006.

i read the map incorrectly, absolutely.

but in this election, lloyd doggett could lose his seat in congress because he's campaigning outside of his traditional district. sure you can redraw this shit later, but he's not coming back if he loses, and there's a definite possibility of that. i'd assume that's what they were counting on

you didn't bother to fact check that you just want to tell me i'm wrong and that the voter rights act works.

where are you now eulogy to concede that while you are correct that the court struck it down, all of this is terribly confusing and they're using the current 2011 map in the interim to await a supreme court ruling that may not go well. as well as the fact that the redrawn maps after the 2001 redistricting cycle maps were struck down were not very fair either?

hello beuller?
?

calm the fuck down and stop assuming you know what other people think

the GOP is doing the same thing in every state they control. It' happened here in Michigan too. they took districts that were heavily representative of Detroit and cut them up so new districts would be tempered by white Suburban voters.

We also just had a primary where the GOP colluded with and secretly helped finance a "Democrat" who immediately switched parties after the primary deadline. The GOP primary winner was a sham and stepped down so that now there's no democrat on the ballot in the general election in November. They rigged the Primary!!

classic racist/dirty politics. It's not just Texas. It's anywhere in the country that the GOP controls a state legislature or governorship.

also i don't think either of us know what the interim map looks like. it's not the same as the one that was signed by perry and just struck down.

your post was about the current redistricting effort. i thought that's what we were talking about. and if the map you still think was unfair allowed doggett to keep his seat then... it seems like it's ok?

“Laws enacted by a legislature elected under an interim map are interim laws, right?”

can't get close to the ideal. if a progressive can get elected in it, then it's better than if he or she could not.
