yeah, zwan was really more sp than this band. this is the band some ppl thought zwan was. blah i dont even want to think about zwan. they could've had a great double album, instead we got an album that missed several of the good rock songs and included way too many songs in D. TFE sounds good but the songs aren't that great. if he'd included the concurrent acoustic stuff he was doing, maybe with a bit of the TFE sound on them, that would've probably been awesome. ever since bill started segregating his stuff to these different projects, this album needs to sound like *this*, this doesn't fit, that's what has hurt him the most

Exactly, Zwan was 1/2 Smashing Pumpkins, this band is only 1/4.

I think that Pinwheels is the only Oceania song that I liked enough to listen to more than once (even when I was drunk and everything sounds amazing).

I can't really put a rating on the Albums as my mood changes and sometimes I like to listen to TFE or some crappy B-Sides and I genuinely enjoy it even though it may be weaker overall material.

I really am digging Oceania overall. Been listening to the 2nd half lately. really like the middle/end of Oceania (song), and the 2nd half of Glissandra has some great tones.

Maybe it's just semantics but I was always more impressed by the overall sonic beauty and depth of the songs and specifically the guitars than more of a straightforward notion of riffs (when I hear Zero or Jackboot I think riff; when I hear Rocket or Hummer I just think pure aural glory). The songs don't seem riff-based but texture and sound-based

All that being said the riffer songs like Geek and Silver still kill it, in part because the drumming is so good

that might well be true. i guess i'm saying that an album with appropriately boneheaded riffs is out of medal contention for me

nothing's for everyone etc

That's not a riff. That's an arrangement strategy.

What riff is boring in particular?

Dumb boring riffs? You stupid fucking kids don't know what the hell you're talking about 99% of the time. Why can't you spoiled little shits just appreciate this music for the time period it came out?? You make these ridiculous comparisons to new music we have now to something Vig produced in fucking '93.. SP isn't even close to the same band now, in fact- I'm convinced that Billy Corgan isn't even the same guy. He's a cyborg created by EMI to keep appearances and make money.. The real Corgan is on an island somewhere with Elvis and Tupac, period.

no my buddy is one of those guys that has a degree in music and just absolutely flips for stuff with absolutely no rhythm.

i mean it's really hard not to have it, basically, so he thinks it's special in a hilarious way?

So this is just some random "band" your friend found? Show me some more awesome clips of these guys please.. Are they from your area or just some other local group? Pretty hilarious stuff, especially that singer taking drags off a cigarette inbetween words, and missing most of his teeth lol

It was actually Steve Albini was touting these guys as one of the greatest bands a while back. Probably because of their complete disregard of the "correct" way to play in a band--whether intentional or not--totally encompassed the punk rock ethos.

Kind of like The Shaggs or even The Frogs.

It isn't about hilarity, it's about the balls these guys had to just go out there and do it, with little care if it was "bad" or not. And possibly challenge the audience to ask ourselves what exactly is bad music?
