i've only had falafel from restaurants and from a box. one day i will do homemade but every time i want it i remember i should soak the chickpeas over night. >_< i did make hummus once and that was pretty good. i made a dip from white beans, too, and i hated it.
but i love white beans. omg. |

trader joe's frozen falafel is not good at all though. which sucks.
there is this other brand that i have only seen in DC that makes pretty decent frozen falafel. but you have to fry them, which gets annoying/messy. i could try to make my own but i don't have a food processor or anything like that. also i suck at cooking so. |

i realize precisely how ridiculous it is to be an elitist about falafel, but frozen ones to make at home? haha, that sounds like shit
from what i've seen and heard (never actually tried tho, honestly) americans are kinda butchering falafel and hummus the same way they did with pizza back in the 80s-90s. obviously you got great pizza in the US too, but commonly it seems more industrialized and compromised than great italian pizza. terrible corporate shit exists here too, of course, but we have lots of places making it really organic and fresh. it really is infinitely better that way |

When was the last time you ate falafel over here
Oh nvm you haven't. I missed that part. There is good and bad. As is the case with everything. The store bought kind is obviously an inferior product but when you live alone and on a budget, it's alright. |

I've never had falafel that wasn't as dry as toast. Is it supposed to be that way? Is the tahini sauce supposed to compensate?

american pizza isn't even like italian pizza and it's not "butchered," it's just reinterpreted. there isn't even just one variety of american pizza. |

i realize though that you meant it as a zing
i understand why you might think i'm being pretentious, and maybe i am (i mean i gotta find at least one good reason to live here) but honestly i think i'm being real and objective. i'm not even trying to mask the fact i've never had any american falafel which basically nullifies my opinion. from the occasional article or picture here and there (BREAKING NEWS: AMERICANS PLACE HUMMUS IN SQUEEZE BOTTLE) it kinda seems like the more common falafel an american is likely to come across is either frozen, compromised or industrialized to some extent. |
