Agreed. Some people's emotions are riding high on this album. They want a good SP album because albums in general are few and far between so unless they see positive reaction, they will be pissed and maybe second guess their own opinion and feel like they waited 5 years for nothing.

I'll reserve judgement but: the same old production mistakes and singing like he's been taught rather than snarling like he does live means this will probably continue the downward spiral. At least we get the Melloncollie release this year. And some of the tracks on Look To The Sky were pretty old school Pumpkins.

i think it's going in both directions. there are people who are praising this as the second coming of SP before they've hear any of the recorded songs in their entirety. that's just as annoying as dismissing it

I like quasar and the 2nd half of the album…but then again samples can be really deceiving.

That sounds nothing like me dickless.

If anything, I would say something like, "most of you will like it at first and grow to hate it like everything else hes released since "SP" came back. Also, I'll call Eulogy a hypocrite and let him know that corgan has yet to issue any kind of apology for the hateful monte like comments he made a while back but feel free to keep giving him your money stupid."

Thats more me.

I think my problem with Byrne is that he's always busy but to my ears, he doesn't use his cymbals or hi-hat as much as he could.

It's lots of chugga-thud.

Crappy samples aside, the production sounds busy and I'm a little worried some cool guitar work will be lost in the mix & keyboards.

I really, really hate those gooey fucking synths melted all over the top of everything. Way to ruin some interesting guitar work that should be allowed to speak for itself and carry the bulk of the song and melody as has been SP tradition in the past! Why has Billy become so fucking determined to sabotage the very concept of a guitar-driven song for the past decade? This is what made SP legendary, FFS. I'm frustrated at this more than anything else.

Wow. Dry, blandly sung vocals mixed on top of everything. Billy just doesn't fucking get it. There's a reason Siamese Dream and MCIS made you rich. You used your whiny voice to your advantage.

I just can't express how much the vox production breaks my balls. This is exactly what I feared. He literally has given up on vocal production.

And he expects this to be the big comeback LOLOLOLOL

I'm still holding out for the album to be released. I remember when Tarantula was previewed, and the preview was the best part of the song, which was unbeknownst to me. It didn't give the rest of the song a lot of power. Though I suppose that was also owed to the modern approach to mastering it.

If people don't like it - that's fine. But I think they should be able to come up with their own reason for not liking it. It's almost like there is a contest to hate mike's drumming the most / Billy's vox mixes the most ... It's just become a contest to see who can be the biggest hater. Why bother hanging around? I still do not understand. I think that 90% of the people posting that they hate this and that or the other - have hated everything for the past 2 years that i resurfaced into Pumpkindom online - and clearly many many years before that. Find a new freakin hobby, you will enjoy your life so much more!

As far as not liking Nicole's bass style... I guess that's a matter of personal preference but I always thought D'arcy's bass playing was kind of embarrassing. If you can keep time and move your fingers - you could have her job. She only ever played the root note of any given chord. Basically always. Every song. Don't get me wrong - loved D'arcy and all, but let's be honest about what she was contributing.

Anyway... I think it's promising, and we'll just have to wait and see what really comes out in the wash when we can hear more than a 30 SECOND SAMPLE that is EXTREMELY LOW QUALITY.

Was it Greg Kot who called Zeitgeist a bunch of riffs taken too far?

If I never hear Tarantula again it will be too soon. I can't listen to it anymore. I remember seeing the video for the first time and thinking who in the fuck are all those douche bags? Wtf is going on?

Didn't listen to the samples, but the comments here leave pretty little to be desired.

I'll get the album when it comes out, but only because I've picked up everything else over the last 15 years or so. In the end though, I'm probably just that old man who only ever orders the potpie simply because it's been part of his routine for as long as he can remember, despite their possibly being other better options on the menu.

30 second clips on amazon is definitely not the way I want to hear this, I can't believe how many of you guys couldn't exercise a tiny bit of control.

To me the worst thing about new SP is the vocal production and if that is still plaguing him at this point then it's a shame but it's just never going to be the same. I'll reserve judgment til I hear the damn thing but argggh it's so frustrating because the music is still good and he can still sing live...but in the studio he doesn't know what he's doing with his vox.
