Interesting. A lot of people seem to think that debating religion is futile and pointless and that nobody ever really changes their mind, and I guess this confirms that it's possible, that you can plant seeds of doubt that later come to fruition. I respect you for having the courage to go through this gut wrenching process of reappraisal -- shows that you're more devoted to truth than you are attached to comfort.

Interesting to note is that I've changed my mind a lot too. I'm still atheistic (I find the idea of a creator god plainly absurd, juvenile) but I'm very sympathetic with most religious people now. I see more clearly how good and noble their motives are. I respect them for taking very seriously and proactively engaging with moral questions (theres nothing more important). They generally have good values.
Not all religious people fit this description, to say the least, and I think religion is practically and ultimately an impediment to answering those questions, as would be any ideology or dogma. But I relate to religious people a lot now, I think I understand them in ways I never did before.
