Default ASMR

I think I have this shit. I was hitting random on Reddit and came across the subreddit (http://www.reddit.com/r/asmr/) and I keep watching the videos.

Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response (ASMR) is a physical sensation characterized by a pleasurable tingling that typically begins in the head and scalp, and often moves down the spine and through the limbs.

Also known as : AIHO (Attention induced head orgasm), AIE (Attention induced euphoria), or simply "head orgasms"/"head tingles".

Be warned - this physical phenomenon isn't experienced by everyone. If you've never had it before, you most likely won't feel it from the different triggers in this subreddit.

COMMON TRIGGERS

Slow speech patterns, accents, soft-speaking voices and whispers.
Lip sounds/smacking/eating
Clicking sounds, brushing sounds, white noise, etc.
Painting/drawing
Instructional videos
Watching other people performing simple tasks
Getting close, personal attention from someone (eye-exam, make-over, etc.)
Haircuts, people playing with your hair
Bob Ross.

really? can you explain it more?

or is it that kind of you have to have it to understand it

you know, like tripping or something. you can't understand it unless you've done it

those videos trigger it for me...the reddit explanation is pretty good, it's both a physical feeling and a kind of psychological state. the back of my head and shoulders tingle and I'll feel really relaxed and even kind of trancelike but not numb. but you're right, very particular and a little hard to describe.

that jacket video is amazing

very. i find it somewhat hard to believe it would actually cause a release of serotonin. but who knows. dopamine is easier to believe, you can train your brain to give you lovely dopamine hits from just about anything.

you have piqued my interest.

i should clarify. it might release serotonin but i dont know how that would "feel" or if you could really tell in real time, so to speak

how long does it last? is it like a plateaued feeling or does it come suddenly and leave suddenly?

this has a name? i "have" something now?

i've gotten that feeling ever since i was little kid from nurses (not doctors), hair stylists, and dentists. any gentleness from them (it only happens with women) or people who don't usually touch me (a friend putting makeup on me, or doing my hair, painting my nails) gives me that tingly, warm, calm feeling in my head and neck.

it's not that interesting.

well i think it's interesting. but i'm interested in the brain so yeah

it's not about "having" something, it's about realizing a phenomenon that is unexplained and makes people feel good. it would be interesting to find out what is actually happening so we can induce this in other ways. you dig?

i dont get it lauren. labels are used to get across a maximum amount of information in the shortest way possible.

am i too self involved if i call high blood pressure high blood pressure instead of saying "the pressure of the blood inside my body against the walls of my arteries is alarmingly high and may lead to premature death"?

again this is a phenomenon that only some people seem to get so it'd be interesting to know what monoamine oxidases enzymes are being released. this could help with creating medications, or understanding what cause and effect behavior is manifesting in order to maximize the amount of time we feel good.

but see that's a shitload of words so i can just label it "serotonin and/or dopamine and/or other neurotransmitters may be released by this activity and i wonder why"

i'm more likely to get this when i'm a little sleepy. i used to watch bob ross before i went to bed just so i could have this feeling again and again. the effect wore off though.
