I somehow enjoy them. But in this case I just thought they were non psychedelic edible mushrooms of some variety, like whatever they put in a can

I know this should seem obvious but since I've simplified my diet I can totally see how my problem foods are sugar-y stuff, especially anything with HFCS. I'll even binge on bread, if there is nothing else and my binge program is activated.

So I've removed all of it from the house. Only bread-y thing I have is some whole wheat burritos. So when I don't have the sugary stuff I definitely next go for anything processed so I need to find ways to stop doing this. Look like I basically can't have anything heavily processed for now. Including cheese and packaged deli meat. Lots of brown rice in my future.

look for ezikiel bread
a lot of stuff labeled whole wheat is just as bad as white bread

ezikiel/sprouted grain breads with at least 3-5 grams of fiber ar the best
you'll take a while to get used to them, but you'll never be able to binge on bread that dense

cheese is the absolutely opposite of a processed food as long as you aren't getting american singles or shit like that

it's also one of the rare things you can get everywhere in unpasteurized form, although you have to seek it out.

i think i'm going on my ultra pure diet again tomorrow. get drunk tonight and then just cut the bullshit. i did it for two years and felt great, i can do it again. ftbsitttd

deli meat is invariably vile in every way
i probably have gotten into my current thoughts on meat too many times on this board and nobody else will have the patience to do what i've done in that area so whatever.

well I'm not getting american singles but it's still packaged like chunk type cheese or whatever it's called. i'll ask my therapist where i can find some unpasteurized stuff. she helped me find a local grocery store that is almost as cheap as walmart. in fact they probably have it there.

i basically cut all bullshit from my diet. it's really not that hard. i wasn't planning on it but it feels right atm

basically as long as i don't eat shitty food i don't crave shitty food

ok well i visited every local family farm and a lot that weren't so local and only buy meat/eggs/raw milk from places that i approved of
i know that the chickens and turkeys and even ducks were actually free range, and not cooped up with a little door giving them access that they don't use, the cows were fed purely their natural diet and roamed free, etc
it's insane but the guilt over industrial farming i have is even more insane. this includes vegetables too, mostly. i mean even the way their farmed on an industrial scale is a disaster, but i can't go that fucking Portlandia that I approve of every piece of fruit

I bet I could do that easily with the power of the internet. There's gotta be forums out there for this kinda thing. Not to cut out the actual visitation but to get some ideas on where to start.

I don't have the overriding guilt like you do but I would like local, healthy food.

I've been getting produce from this Farmer's Market but of course it's not all local or anything. But don't know how much better I can do with that, especially in April.

What you're doing is basically a paleo diet, right? There's tons of forums for that sort of thing.

Some people on paleo diets follow an 80/20 principle and most of them are loose on the dairy restriction. Grains are a major no-no, though.

I think the 80/20 principle is mostly an excuse for red wine, and who can blame them

I mean there are variations among every kind of diet that are impossible to count. It's just the grains and legumes that I think are always cut out. Even that is kind of in dispute, because in a review of Loren Cordain's Paleo Diet book the founder of the Weston A. Price foundation mentions that there's evidence that primitive people consumed grains. Of course just having consumed them is no evidence that it's healthy. There's a lot in that particular Paleo book that has no basis in reality or science though. Unfortunately it's the one titled "The Paleo Diet" so people think it represents the entire movement. It doesn't, even though it does have some important information and at least started the dialog.

Everyone deep down knows what healthy food is. I'm just an expert on various diets because I've been on so many. I was just commenting on the specifics of what the Paleo Diet entails. I'm only not getting angry because you're fat and thus are allowed to make fun of my weight. It's a brotherhood thing. House Lannister, hear me roar.

Ohhh that was a great workout. I was thinking today that as a rhythm musician I have a huge advantage working out because if I stick some loud throbbing music in my ears my body involuntarily responds to it and working out to it is pleasurable and even euphoric. I see people around me without headphones struggling and it looks so miserable. I mean being a failed musician is a special and exquisite sort of curse in almost every other way. But it's nice that it makes working out a bit of fun.

I failed all but one of my papers at uni one semester because I spent every waking hour creating spreadsheets of the macro and micro nutrients in every single thing I ate. I'm slightly obsessive like that. In the end I do better when I eat mostly fresh vegetables, whole grains and lean protein like egg whites, white fish, skinless chicken breast, and little or no sugar, including fruit sugars. But if I don't allow myself regular cheat days and use them to eat hamburgers and brownies, I get too obsessed with food and it ruins my life. Every so often you've gotta say yeah some French fries and some full fat ice-cream contain my day's entire calorie allowance. So I'm gonna go hungry today and enjoy them slowly at 7pm, with a beer. And then feel like death and go to sleep early.

Well tomorrow is my birthday and I'm probably gonna eat cake.

I am keeping track of my macro and micro nutrients but the web makes it much easier. No spreadsheets involved. Also not 100% accurate. I have obsessive tendencies as well but so far I don't think I'm going overboard. Once I figure out what works for me there should be little thinking involved.

I agree that everyone deep down knows what's healthy.

I am having problems motivating but I did walk a 15 minute mile tonight. Gotta start somewhere I guess.

Also meal planning is fun.

I made a bunch of brown rice yesterday and made a burrito for breakfast with 1/2 cup rice, 2 eggs, 2oz cheddar cheese and 1/2 cup of mushrooms. Then ate black beans with rice for dinner with a huge salad. Woke up really late today and am eating the rest of the beans and rice for dinner. And will probably have another huge salad sometime before I go to sleep.

Exciting right?

Oh yeah I use myfitnesspal now. It's pretty good.

But I mean I was tracking stuff like selenium. You're right, after the initial obsession you have enough knowledge that you can meal plan without thinking much about it. I'm really glad in a way that I went through all of that because shortly afterward I fell pregnant and it made me a much healthier mother and my kids eat a much healthier diet than I ever did, because I was so obsessive for that little while.

My obsession with peak oil and climate change led to an obsession with self sufficiency and permaculture which led us to buying in a socially terrible area but one that is well serviced by water from run off creeks from the surrounding hills and where we could afford a large enough section to grow all our own food and keep chickens (which we have already) and a goat for milk (which we haven't bought yet).

So obsession is good sometimes. During all of this my poor husband has had to go to work every day and earn enough money to pay all our bills because I'm too flighty and unreliable to hold down a job lol. Poor guy. Obsession is a bit of a luxury I guess.

it definitely is a luxury. i wont have as much time to learn about all of this within the next few weeks to a month or so because i will be working full time again or close to it, for the first time in like four years (mental health issues). so, i'm trying to get this all off the ground now. the time period is approximate but i'm starting on this work incentive thing for people on disability which will help with job placement. i'm a very good candidate.

i didnt really plan to do any of this but i think that's made it easier in a lot of ways.
