There was a period I wasn't going to college and was working a tech support job (very low female to male ratio), none of my hobbies involved women and I hated going to bars. As a result, I would mildly crush on retail and food service workers. So my m.o. for picking them up was something like this: If there is a coffee place or something similar nearby, just walk up to the counter when buying something and say "hey you seem really cool, but it seems weird/rude to talk to you while you're working. do you want to get some coffee when you get off work?". They probably will say they have a boyfriend, so you have to remind them it's just a platonic thing.

Trust me, it will feel awkward as hell while you do it the first time. If she rejects you, then never go to that record store ever again. If you end up having coffee with them, it probably won't turn into anything because most people are profoundly annoying and your crush won't last much longer. Either way, you'll get a deep satisfaction of having taken the first step in letting your feeling be known.
