Hitchens was a genius. One of the few public figures that I could disagree with and still respect. Mainly due to the fact that he thoroughly presented his points of view, and he offered fact based arguments to support them.

in the end, his chain smoking did him in. But he didn't turn into a whinning turd, like so many public figures do when they become ill. He kept on working and writing and expressing himself just as he did prior to becoming ill.

I agree with Scotty. Awful, awful news. The way Hitchens never took shit from anyone has been truly inspirational. There were things he said I can't agree with, but his debates on religion were always a real treat. R.I.P.

great book!

just about everything he's written is a good read.

If you like Hitchens I'd also suggest reading Dawkins's "The God Delusion" which is less socio-political than Hitchens and comes from more of a biological perspective. Richard Dawkins shares Hitchen's sharp tongue and whit.
