an MBA is not a BA john, it's a Masters of Business Administration

and yeah earning it on the weekend is still a joke, but it's not a Bachelors of Arts...

Who is paying for that? I don't know how that works over there, is it the same as Australia (assuming it's not scholarships).

Between all those classes does it not add up to another degree? Oh wait that's different too, they don't make you go the long, unfocused route with random base classes like they do here, do they? =\

I know it's not a BA. But it's technically grad school for a liberal art. And if you can get the damn thing in one weekend a month, the degree itself is kind of a joke.

I mean, my mom when she was in her late 40s, got her MBA from University of Phoenix (i know, i know) and even she admits the degree itself is essentially meaningless. But she already had a well paying executive position at the time and understands the value lies more in what she learned that the piece of paper she got from a for-profit diploma mill.

It would depend on how many weekends it takes. A full time student can get an MBA in one year, so if it's a lot of hours on those weekends it's not really that crazy of an idea. But MBA classes are (in my limited experience) considered to be total jokes. Even by the people getting them. And I don't think business administration is considered the liberal arts.

As far as liberal arts degrees go, they're usable if you can make good connections or go somewhere that helps you stand out. or do something else that differentiates yourself. But on their own, yeah, they're probably not good at setting anyone apart from anyone else.

tuition is partly subsidised by the government here. i got a student loan to pay for the rest.

between my two attempts i have enough points for an undergrad degree, but i don't have the third-year papers required for a major of any kind. i don't want to work as a public servant (which is what the economics + politics degree would've set me up for), and music degrees are only really useful for sound engineering or classical performance – neither of which are my thing – so there's not much incentive for me to ever go back and graduate. it's a sunk cost

well i dunno if it's the same there as here, or if austin has more of this sort of thing but my buddy has a degree in guitar, basically, and he does a lot of freelance instruction. the pay is fairly dreadful though, it's supplemental easy income for him, but he's excellent with young people.

oh, i have friends who do that. they seem to enjoy it but yeah, they're always dirt poor

pretty happy doing what i'm doing right now (interaction/UX design) and i'm comfortable enough. but relatively speaking i've been pretty fucking lucky with my "career" so far

also, i had a very hot, very nice, very young teacher in 7th grade. a lot of the 7th and 8th grade boys were terrible to her despite them all wanting to bone her.

she cried regularly and quit after one year. i felt really bad for her. but last i heard, she was teaching like k-2nd grade or something, which is what she wanted to do anyway, so i guess it worked out in the end.

junior high boys are probably the worst people to try to teach. especially if one has no training and no desire to teach.

and yeah 5th grade thru middle school is more like trying to keep a bunch of hormone fueled young people from reinacting lord of the flies

i did a substitute gig where i was in the ISS with middle schoolers and there was this kid that was just giving me all kinds of ridiculous problems, total fucking nitwit, and i could tell he was high and i was like "do you think I don't know that you're high right now" which prompted the class to laugh at me for some reason and i couldn't say "Bitches I've smoked more weed than any of yawl PUT TOGETHER."

They automatically assume if you're in a position of authority that you're some kind of loser, because they are nitwits. The asst. principal was like "HEY WE NEED YOU TO STAY WOULD YOU LIKE TO!?" and i just told her, "Heck no, I kind of felt like I was being punished."

I did enjoy myself with a group of learning disabled kids one time because they started asking me about music and they're all like "Mr. Mr. (suppresed laugh) you ever heard of Tupac???!??!" and they were getting a huge kick out of me going "Dude, everyone knows who Tupac is, it's not a secret."

MR MR HAVE YOU HEARD OF...LINKIN PARK???
yeah they're terrible, dude. You ever hear of...The Pixies???
LOL NO U R OLD

we should all just continue to tell everyone that they can do whatever they want if they just put their minds to it because it has worked so well for us over the last 25 years.

no just continue to tell people how to live their lives and make them feel like shit for not sharing your opinions and deciding to do something you wouldn't do.
