Default Dexter season six

I expected season six to suck a lot, but I was kinda surprised for the first five episodes or so. It was better than I thought it would be.

kinda spoilers

But the last few episodes have been really, really awful. Deb's therapy sessions are a joke and does not reflect real therapy unless your therapist is a dumbass and so are you. The acting and scripting in these scenes are ridiculously awful.

I'm also afraid they are going to end up saying the doomsday killer has dissociative identity disorder and that would piss me off a lot. Based on yesterday's episode.

Obviously deb and quinn are going to get back together at some point

and the second plot involving laguerta and her boss whatshisname is stupid as fuck

im starting to get pissed off at this season

I thought the beginning of the latest season kind of sucked ass. The first 3 episodes were especially bad. In fact the writing, shot blocking, pacing, etc. on the first two seemed odd. There was something about the way they shot and wrote those episodes that felt reall off. And with the initial storyline they seemed to be going down some kind of weird "will Dexter find religion" route that just wouldn't make any fucking sense at all.

After the 4th episode the season has shifted into a tone that's similar to past seasons. It's obvious at this point that dexter isn't having any kind of religous conversion. In fact, his "conversion" is probably just getting back to his "code" which seems to be the only thing he has "faith" in.

while I'm not completely put off by the colin hanks scenario, i could see the Prof. Gellar thing from a mile away. they made it way to obvious right in the first couple of episodes.

TV and Movies have over used these "gotcha" gimmicks.

Beyond that I think the past 4 episodes have been OK. The show is not at its zenith or anything but it's still entertaining. I think it's probably the worst season so far, though.

I predict that in the remaining episodes one of two things will happen with the dumb ass video game making intern.... Either he will literally discover Dexter's secret (either by putting all the pieces together or by somehow figuring out what Dexter's constantly looking at on his work computer) OR he'll create his video game version of the homicide division and make a video game version of Dexter that is a serial killer.

either way, that fucker is going to end up dead at the end of the season.

how many seasons is Showtime making? kind of figures that when they end it it will be with Dexter either dead and/or Deb finding out about him.

what a contrived load of shit. I've seen the pilot and an episode from season 5 with that cunt. Not interested. TV sucks.

I enjoy the show for the most part but haven't seen any of the most recent two seasons.

I make a drinking game out of it- drink whenever deb is angry. Drink whenever deb cusses.

some personal ruminations on season six thus far:

"2011 mixing style" = dry vocals sitting on top

also digital reverb

the remastered albums sound like the vocals have been pushed to the center, while the actual music has been pushed to the left and right speakers...the drums sound buried to me. Anyone else?

sadly, they sound exactly like I expected them to. Super compressed and too loud with no dynamics at all.

these all fall victim to the current trend of mastering which squashes the dynamic range for the sake of everything being louder

even though the bit rate of the samples is pretty low it is very easy to hear the difference

the first episode of this season was terrible (hammer time!) and i braced for the absolute worst. but to my surprise the season panned out pretty well so far. probably going to end up better than than season 3, definitely better than 5.

the show's basically a cartoon at this point and i could write paragraph after paragraph about its contrivances but as a viewer i feel invested enough in the main character to oversee most of it.

i think it got renewed for two more seasons. so maybe it's time for a 'burn down agrestic' moment where everything's flipped on its head. maybe take it outside of miami? dexter on the run? nah they'll probably keep the same formula, and maybe its for the better. i dunno

yeah, i still watch the show, first and foremost because there's not a whole lot of good tv to watch these days. its embarrassingly bad. actually the colin hanks thing (which is pretty obviously going to be a fight club twist) is not a bad idea, but the way they're pulling it off is mediocre at best.

also, debra went from being a decent character to absolute horror. it's a shame for the actress because the script is just totally ridiculous, and she's not a bad actress when the writing is decent.
HOLY FUCKKNUCKLES

WELL FUCK ME IN THE EAR AND CALL ME TRUDY

what the fuck is that bullshit. we get that she got a dirty fuckin mouth
just fucking stop with the parody-esque attempts at stringing together random cusses just to justify the character. also, as previously stated, therapy sessions are an absolute joke

Yeah, this show is weird. Some episodes are good but the last couple of seasons have been really boring, almost embarrassing to watch.
The fact that it got renewed for two more seasons puzzles me. The formula is getting really old and it feels like the writers have nothing left to explore. Looks like the show is still very popular, huh

It insults me that almost every portrayal of dissociative identity disorder in the media depicts the people as dangerous. This is not true and it pisses me the fuck off as someone with it. United States of Tara also is guilty of this bullshit. She's like the worst mother ever.

This last episode was the most wince-inducing of any Dexter episode ever imo

and that therapy session when the therapist is completely judging Deb - who she just met - on how she should live her life and deb says that she's "good".

that's not what therapists do. and her blurting out all that trauma stuff like it was nothing, all at the beginning of her sessions with this lady? fucking

god i hate bad portrayals of mental health stuff

also, i have never met someone with DID who saw their alters outside of themselves and interacted with them like they are physically another person. maybe it happens but usually it doesn't. so fight club can suck a dick as well

both points you raised allude to the same thing, which is the flat nature and one-dimentionality of this show. its like a cartoon. there are like 10 plot holes per episode, things continuously happen in an arbitrary and unreasonable manner, not to mention improbable...
it was never bleeding edge realistic anyway, but its like theyre not even trying anymore

at least they've managed to get something out of previous seasons' guest stars. this year they have Edward James Olmos and they feed him a bunch of shitty lines and only have him interact with one other character on the show. wtf?

you are correct sir

lol @ bitch being her own therapist. i hated it before then but stopped watching completely at that point.

she fucks anything that moves and is a terrible mother. also it is shown that anti-psychotics get rid of her alters which they absolutely do not. i am on seroquel myself. if it got rid of voices then she is schizophrenic and not DID. but it's just all mish mashed and i hate it

not to mention a show about a controversial diagnosis which is controversial because people think people fake is kinda fucked up. she essentially is faking it since it's a show which just undermines it even more. such bullshit

This season is pretty cringeworthy. The first episode with the hammer time was maybe the worst episode of the series. Also didn't like the Nebraska one (although I guess it did tie up the loose end of trinitys son being able to identify dexter). Mos Def, and the whole "will dexter find religion" plotline, was also just . Still I think it's better than season three, or whatever season it was with Jimmy Smits as the DA. Seasons one, two, and four were the best.

I think it's funny reading salon and new republics weekly recap articles and see them grow more and more sure every week Geller is some sort of figment of his imagination, only to see it come true. It was literally a twist everyone saw coming.

i thought geller was real simply because it showed him interacting with the environment. i thought that was outside the "dark passenger's" physics

that's one thing iffy about the show now. when apparitions of harry and dexter's brother appeared it was almost a sacrosanct thing. now they walk onto set like a fucking sitcom. lol @ how brian basically killed the pot grower guy with a pitchfork

gotta say though, the batista/quinn scenes were gold this season

yeah they were pretty good. i hope they do something with quinn like have him find out about dexter first. honestly i want dexter to get caught and try to outsmart the cops while his sister reels from it and he becomes the most famous serial killer ever. and it comes out that he was the real bay harbor butcher.

the "environment" was only the stuff that involved the murders (at the church). in all the scenes where Gellar is in public he doesn't touch or pick up anything. nobody except colin hanks acknowledges him, looks at him.

thats the thing quinn more or less already knows. remember he hired that seedy guy to investigate dexter but then he fell in love with debra or whatever and ignored the evidence. which was a huge cop out and why i hate last season with a passion. if they pick back up on that, i'd be pleased

there was one scene that, to me, was the smoking gun that he was real. i was like "ah hah!" but i forgot what exactly it was :P
