My two closest friends from college, though, stayed cool. My best friend became a teacher and teaches in inner city schools just like he planned. He's still sort of "out there" politically. And my friend who went through the Philosophy Undergrad program at MSU is now a professor of Philosophy. He still has his ridiculous punk rock name that he changed to when he was 19. Still very open minded. they don't have kids yet, though.

as controversial and snide as this thread seems i was profoundly disappointed in my friend when he started talking about how he hates faggots

he asked me if i believed in absolutes, i said no because we all now accept human slavery as wrong but it was divinley mandated order ages ago and he just goes "i think that's like what homosexuality is right now"

Well I majored in english, so my options are journalism, editing, freelance writing, and teaching. I've taken a few editing classes and couldn't conceive of anything more dry (and let it be known that I adore grammar). I'm not fond enough of the media or other people's lives to pursue a career in journalism, whereas I AM fond of money so freelance writing isn't an attractive option either. I somehow feel that entrusting children to my care is a dangerous decision, considering as I type this I am also doing three different drugs, but I'm signed up to get a certification to teach grades 4-8. Mostly just want to see some monetary results from all my "hard" work, even if it isn't substantial at first.

It scares me too

The other day my friend and I were walking downtown tripping shrooms, and he mentioned that if I become a teacher I might need to ease up. What if a student saw me and came running over with her parents? I was in no position to sound professional, to say the least. This could be avoided by only doing drugs at home, but I'm not sure about schools' drug testing policies. I'm also not sure that I'm ready to work a real job if my primary concern is getting away with drug use....

2. my best advice- do what you WANT to do. do what makes you happy. it sounds like you know...disney follow your heart shit, but speaking from experience, there's not a lot of money to be made right now so live it up and worry about that later.

i majored in international relations/poly sci, so like you, career options in my field are limited these days and if i do land one, the pay is shit. but when i figured out how to enjoy it while living below poverty it stopped mattering to me. (not to blame you for wanting to live comfortably, I would also like a payoff for my time in the grind) so dont feel guilty if you want to go do something different but awesome for shit pay.

Which drugs? The necessary marijuana and xanax, and I have some DMT.

I truly wish there was a way for me to actualize my dreams through the workforce, but I get my kicks off the clock doing things like drugs and sitting on my ass. Any type of job is a hassle for me, so my logic is to try to make the most money I can while being there.

"Living for the weekend" may sound a bit immature, but I find that more people do this than you'd think, even the astute businessmen.

Now for the real concern: my dream writing project! It would be a series of loosely connected essays discussing the universe - everything from practical applications of theoretical physics to pure speculation of space's hidden mysteries. None of it mathematically sound or provable, of course.
