The virus approach is golden. Good call on that.

I used a far less tactful and far more direct approach when I got sick of my grandpa sending me crap pre-Obama election a few years ago. I finally snapped and replied to one which led to a huge ol' shitstorm. Do not recommend doing that.

At the time, I just couldn't take it anymore... it just needed to be squelched.

there was a clip from palestine on network news for no other reason than to outrage anyone and it turned into a racist urban legend about those muslins

my family is super religious. my three year old nephew thinks that rain is angels crying. it breaks my heart. i wouldn't doubt for a second that my sister wouldn't let me babysit him because i am atheist.

well he probably believes in santa and the tooth fairy too so i don't think that's such a big deal.

now if his mother believes that then you got problems.

it's a big deal because at a certain age he will be told that santa and the tooth fairy don't exist. i'm sure at some point he will be allowed to learn that science can explain rain, but that's probably about it.

when i was home at thanksgiving i found a stack of books on how to indoctrinate toddlers most effectively.

well yeah, indoctrination in general is bad but the angels crying thing isn't something to get particularly worked up about.

just make sure he reads a lot or something. probably all you can do.

I was able to transition smoothly into Santa-skepticism. but my dad outright told my brother when he was 10 that the whole thing was an elaborate hoax and he cried. my mom didn't speak to him for like a week.

Ten thousand incensed Jews swarmed into New York City's Central Park where the man they hated most planned to speak in the "free forum area." The huge mob was swollen with overwrought people loudly screaming for his blood. They brandished lead pipes and pieces of broken pavement in the best Old Testament traditions of free speech. No one really expected him to show up in the face of such demented numbers, so the frothing Chosen turned the event into an anti-Nazi celebration. They clapped and sang "Havanaglia" and performed round-dances in the street. But at the height of their vengeful hysteria, at the appointed time, a big man standing tall and alone in the very midst of the insane rabble threw off his long, concealing overcoat. As if by black magic, George Lincoln Rockwell appeared in full Stormtrooper uniform in the eye of an emotional hurricane, surrounded by enemies too stunned to move. Incredibly, he began to taunt them, deriding them to their camel-faces as cowards and fugitives from lunatic asylums.

He had shown up , he said, at their request, so let's see how tough they really were. No one made a move against the formidable ex-U.S. Navy Commander. He strutted smiling among them, ridiculing their false promises to prevent his New York speech. It was a very personal confrontation between Aryan man and his Jewish opposites, between racial matter and anti-matter. An explosion was inevitable.
The Jews Go Nuts

Only by degrees did the Hebes belatedly psych themselves up to sufficient hysteria. In a convulsive, screaming lunge they fell on Commander Rockwell. But he had the psychological advantage of a larger-than life personal courage. In an utterly one-sided battle too incredible for anyone who has not actually witnessed or fought through such a moment, he bashed and throttled his way into the shrieking crowd. The grasping, spitting devils fell on all sides, as the lone hero of the White race cut a path of blood and broken bones across New York City. They never knocked him off his feet and he never tired of splitting enemy jaws.

Alarmed and inspired by such Herculean bravery, a squad of policeman crashed into the howling throng swinging night sticks. Kosher casualties mounted rapidly, as the cops obviously relished their sport. They blazed a path of splattering gore to the ever-battling Rockwell, and escorted him over the blubbering bodies of fallen Jews. He emerged with only a few cuts and minor bruises. Even his uniform was in relatively good shape.

My mom sends an average of 10-12 of those crap emails a day. I have rules set up on my inbox that it automatically goes into and I go through once a week to see if she's sent me anything relevant. If not I just delete it all.

nobody is going to listen to someone who just says "let me tell you how you're all wrong." i applaud your desire to enact social change on a personal level but arguing with people just makes them get defensive and shut down. i'd just remove the guy from my email list if i didn't want to read his emails, or email him and ask him to please stop sending me chain emails 'cause they're clogging up my inbox and made me accidentally delete something important or something. maybe then he'll tone down across the board.

i've said it before and i'll say it again: if you could reason with religious people there wouldn't be religious people.

It's not a matter of reasoning. Social pressure is a really powerful motivator of human behavior. Psychological evidence suggests that the easiest way to change someone's behavior is still to put them in an environment where they will feel different if they continue with the undesired behavior. Do you think it was reason that convinced the majority of the people in the US that racism is wrong? No, it wasn't. The government and the civil rights movement put social pressure on society to change people's attitudes. It comes back to what I said earlier. The reason there are still so many racists and bigots around (I bet everyone can think of at least one in their family or friend group) is because the social pressure isn't there to shame them out of it. When people act antisocially like this, they should be called out, not because they understand logic, but because they understand peer pressure.

notice the venue that these people say this shit in. They wouldn't go out in public and talk to a stranger about it. They wouldn't openly treat a Muslim badly to his or her face. In that respect, they are cowards. They understand that to do that would result in serious social backlash because there are expected negative consequences. However, in terms of their family and friends, that pressure isn't there, because very few people will stand up to those close to them about important things

oh jesus christ.

they aren't (always) the same thing.

let's check a dictionary:

Quote:
1
: to instruct especially in fundamentals or rudiments : teach
2
: to imbue with a usually partisan or sectarian opinion, point of view, or principle
i think we're talking about #2 here. if that is the same as "instruction" to you then i dunno what to tell you.
