I have taken a pretty incredible graduate level course on the subject, have read a couple of really excellent books on the subject, and have my own experiences facilitating a dream interpretation group to back up my thoughts.

If you don't open up your mind to something how can you expect to reap the rewards?

I don't understand why you are so averse to dreams and maybe that is one of the main problems right there? You said you don't really get it and that could also be the problem. IDK man.
right i'm not putting mann on a big genius platform, that's space for Scorsese (who is in chrome spell check i might add) and the twisted pretentious gifts of the coens and i dunno, more than a few dead guys.

Mann is a stylist, though, and a top notch one. Nolan isn't and the style of Inception is not really groundbreaking or unusual, it's well done because it was paid for. Nolan's gift has to do with complex story-lines and tricky moral quandaries. He launched his career with a gimmick flick (which is good don't get me wrong) and then landed Batman because they needed a modern movie maker with decent pedigree and a knack for mysteries. Now he's a genius because Heath Ledger blew our minds and the studio pulled for a brain teaser thriller. Ehh.

to be perfectly honest i thought collateral was well shot and well performed but the story was lacking and public enemies played fast and loose with a lot of facts for no real reason, but again was extremely stylish.

and heat is too long but i still like it.

I think you're all forgetting why The Matrix was terrific in the first place: Shiny leather. Those films are a fetishists' wet dream. Style out the wazoo. The first one's great and parts of the second.

I thought Public Enemies was deathly boring. But then, I think Johnny Depp has the same problem that Brad Pitt has: put him in a straight role without a gimmick and he's not that good.

Case in point: Public Enemies, The Tourist, Finding Neverland, Blow (The argument breaks down somewhat for his '90s output)

They both work best as character actors.

To be honest, give Tom Cruise a leading role and he beats them both.

i don't think it was ever that good.

the more i think about that movie the more i dislike it. the scene where the two of them are doing it everywhere and then all of the sudden there's a fucking rocket launch or whatever the fuck. wow. hooray for subtlety.

tilda swinton killed her scenes though. saved the movie from being a total failure.

and pitt recovered with tree of life. he was really good in it i thought.

haha that is true, and they get more obscure the higher up you go so it basically doesn't mean all that much

i mean i took a senior level class on "The History of the Silk Road" and it was awesome.

i mean shit is thought provoking but psychotherapy i think keeps veering off into conjectural liberal arts land but i dunno, maybe paradoxically it is all hokum but it works

i wouldn't base any opinions on psychotherapy on gossamer's posts. no one with a one- or two-year graduate program under his belt is an authoritative expert on anything.

so you sat through a really long movie on tv even though you didn't like it. and if it had commercials, it took even longer.
