More than 34% of West Virginia residents are obese according to Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index data from January though June 2011. This is up from 33.5% in 2010 and is the highest Gallup has measured for any state since it began tracking obesity rates in 2008.

Colorado continues to boast the lowest obesity rate in the country, at 20.1%. This is unchanged from 2010, but up from 19.5% in 2009 and 18.2% in 2008. There is now no state in the nation that has an obesity rate lower than 20%.

In the U.S. overall, 26.3% are obese so far in 2011, which is about on par with the 26.6% who were obese in 2010, but remains higher than 25.5% in 2008.

this increases virtually every type of disease and health issue in the US (from Diabetes to Cancer). It means people don't live as long. They become a drag on the health system (both private and public) and a drag on the economy. They are less productive workers. etc. etc.




When I was a kid it was unusual for kids to be obese. There were one or two "fat kids" in my class every year. Now, I see my nieces and nephews and the kids they go to school with and it seems obesity is common with kids. I feel bad for those kids because they're most likely going to be obese, unhealthy adults and they're going to have some horrible medical issues when they get older. Having watched many members of my own family suffer from heart disease and diabetes, i can say that when 1 in 4 people are obese this country is seriously fucked up.

that's colorado! everytime I visit colorado I'm shocked at how thin everyone is. I don'tn know where they're hiding 20% of their population, but it ain't Denver, The Springs or Boulder.



Everytime I visit western Europe I'm also shocked at how thin everyone is. I don't know if I've ever seen a fat person in Amsterdam.

my parents are on medicare. my father and stepfather are both disabled.

I haven't seen a skinny cop in this country in a long time. They are all either fat or giant steroid freaks



Yes, the Swedish are usually some good looking people. My grandmother was from Sweden. she was always thin and healthy. How she had so many obese kids I do not know.
