that book is really absurdly dark for a teen book, it's honestly really strange and i understood why they had to ditch a lot of those characters to the ether, they fucked a lot of them up pretty goddamn bad.

the only ones of that original cast of new mutants that didn't come out with tons of baggage were Sam Guthrie and Bobby DaCosta.

Claremont is kind of sick how he fucks with his female characters, it's weird how he's simultaneously sexist and liberal, since Storm was one of the best female characters in comics up until she became a boring drone in the 90s. And she's black too, holy shit. But all the mind control stuff and the sexual undertones of the Dark Phoneix saga and the shit he did to Dani Moonstar and Xian Coy Manh...eh. Kind of a wash overall haha.
