I've had to do it once and it sucks. Even if you hate the person it sucks, this guy would not show up for shifts forcing me to work 16 hour days and it still sucked.

it's going to depend on what kind of job it is, how long they've been there, ect. i've never had to fire anybody but i've been the 'witness' or whatever and it's usually an "okay, i'll go get my things" kind of affair. even when i think it's going to go over bad, it doesn't. but you never know

as somebody who's been fired a zillion times myself, it doesn't really sink in until later. but those jobs were shit anyway. if i lost the job i had now i don't know if i could be able to drive home because my life would be ruined hardcore. so it depends on the job and the life situation

Meh. Just if it's part of your job it shouldn't bother you.

Tell them in addition to their severance, you personally want them to have a gift card from Chili's you've proffered. Works every time.

It's not that bad - people are replaceable and if they deserve to be fired then they'll be replaced by someone better. Thus making your job easier.

Laying off people is much worse IMO.

I haven't had to but security does have to escort "high risk" people out of the building. Sometimes, especially "in these economic times", people are really attached to their jobs.

The latest was this guy who was really just a difficult person in general; they were looking for a reason to fire him. He called someone a son-of-a-bitch and out he went. The Physical Security Manager had to escort him to pack up his things and we had to watch him physically leave the property and we were put on high alert.

Another time, this dude got busted for looking up porn A LOT. I don't understand that since it is a known fact when you get hired that you are 1) monitored 2) only alotted a certain number of hours a month for internet use anyway and 3) there is a strict, strict policy on what website not to go to.

Dude had a wife and kids and, if I'm not mistaken, another one on the way. How the fuck do you begin to explain that you got busted looking up not just porn, but too much porn to your family?

we're about to can a single dad with two kids and i don't know how we're going to do it. he just isn't showing up, so... *shrug

i've never had to be escorted except for when i worked for UPS and got canned. when they told me to wait to be escorted almost said 'aw, cmon... seriously?' but UPS is a big company so i gave them the benefit of a doubt that it was protocol with everybody. but it was probably my worst firing experience. guy was a complete dick and didn't really give me any explanation. basically 'we don't like you. peace out bitch. gimme your badge'. angers me to this day. they didn't even send me my last check until six months later. talk about a dickslap to the face

if you fire someone and it doesn't bother you in the slightest, then you are completely devoid of empathy.

I was thinking about going with "hey buddy, remember how you have a job here? Oh, well it looks like you can forget about that! Lol " or "unfortunately your position has closed. But we do have an opening in the shit cannery, if ya catch my drift *nudge nudge*"

I've seen a lot of the security guards go in the past and given the regular type of person that works in this industry the potential for a shitfest is always there, just now I have to deal with it firsthand.

Oh, I didn't answer the approach part. I give warning and a time to make up. If criteria isn't amply met I call them into a conference room and tell them the reason for the decision. Since they've received warning it isn't bad - I feel bad for their famous but it is self-earned.

I've only once had to fire someone without warning, and that was for theft. We called him on an off day and told him not to report and send another party for his belongings.

lol this one guard got into trouble for sexually harassing the front desk clerks and he was hella tripping about having to explain that to his wife. It was pretty funny man.

You guys probably dont think it's the same thing, but, for example: I've had to personally kick members out of bands I manage. In one case I had to kick out the guy who started the band 2 years earlier. He was and still is a very good friend. it sucked.

In south africa its pretty hard to fire someone, which is kinda stupid i guess.
but there has to be like 2 verbal warning, followed by 2 written warnings and disciplinary action, and after that it's only okay to fire them.

obviously certain things are grounds for instant dismissal.

See that was the problem my boss loved forcing his managers to do surprise out of nowhere firings. The guy was a doped up psychotic nutjob. There was always some super secret plan for firing people.
