yup. here in canada we have one conservative party, and three liberal ones. the conservatives ran extremely effective attack ads on the liberal leader, stating that since he has taught at harvard, oxford, and cambridge, he is not truly canadian, and is over-educated and therefore out of touch with us dumb folks. this didn't lead to a surge in conservative support, rather a shift to votes for the new democratic party and this vote-splitting caused the conservatives to win a ton more seats and grab an overwhelming majority government with 39% of the popular vote. yay, democracy.
