and besides what i do is changing daily habits. I don't motivate myself with dreams of money and fame, I eat meat once a day, I use public transportation, I recycle, I talk, read, and write about politics and history.

I'm sorry that's enough. Maybe I should have graduated from Notre Dame.

It would be interesting to find out how many natural gas plants are being planned versus nuclear. I'm assuming that the former is a large number and the latter is a tiny number.
Yeah probably. But the chance is higher with the President fighting for building them and increased funding, no? Either way, the timing in relation to your post is what got me.

dude are you serious, i've known you for over a decade on here. don't keep lying about how your character isn't apparent from what you write, because it is. You are a total asshole, shallow, and completely uninterested at looking at anything very critically.

Brendan, I think you operate under this assumption that Nuclear Power is extremely dangerous because you simply don't know much about it. It's a mysterious bogeyman technology to you and thus cannot comprehend that an energy system based on fossil fuels is inherently a lot more dangerous and a lot worse for the environment. How is worrying about how to store spent nuclear fuel rods any different or comes close to worrying about greenhouse gases affecting climate change? I think you should educate yourself a bit on nuclear power technology and you will find, factually and statistically, nuclear power is a lot safer than what we currently rely on.

And that is not to say the nuclear power is our future. Obviously, renewable energy HAS to be our future. But I can see that nuclear power is better than fossil fuel power.

No, it's dangerous because of Chernobyl and Fukushima.

I can know whole bunch of stuff about how "safe" all 104 of our plants are or whatever. I'm perfectly familiar with that. I'm aware that there's thousands of nukes that don't have problems. But the ones that do? Well jesus christ is there anything more fucked up than Chernobyl? Parts of northern japan are going to be dead zones. And you're still telling me "this stuff is better than coal"? Are you fucking serious? You just dismiss nuclear waste like it doesn't matter/is incomparable to greenhouse gases. Are you mental?

It's pretty stupid to call it "safe" though. It's trading one devil for another, that's all it is. Much like how you vote for some bullshit rich ass democrat (barbara boxer, nancy pelosi isn't your district is she?) that's really a fucking Reaganist over a Republican because "it's the lesser of two evils."

When are we going to stop accepting evils?

safe nuclear energy is just as much a bullshit misnomer as clean coal.

i'd say millions dying over the years from dirty air pollution, global warming, polluting water from coal mining is more fucked up than thousands dead from Chernobyl.

You know what stupid about this is that we're just now turning to nuke energy so it's not that big a deal right now. The more nuke plants the more radioactive material there is near population centers, the more chances for catastrophic accidents and terrorism. I mean, you're comparing an industry that's 200 years old with one that's barely even 50.

fair point.

but STOP BEING A CONSUMER WHORE AND BECOME A HIPPIE is not a compelling alternative at the moment

that may be my human failing but not a philosophical one.

by the way any time you are remotely critical about anything i'm going to say that you're bitching and whining so be ready for that, because that easy ass attack is old as fuck, son.

oh no trotsky has a different viewpoint and he doesn't have an ivy league degree so i will mock him and act like it's completely impossible for anyone to think about anything unless they "did something" and i'll mock him relentlessly because i'm a big whiny bitchy crybaby and i don't like it when i have to actually consider the fact that capitalism is wrong and our consumption is ridiculously out of control

you realize the point is that you are bitching about people like debaser as if there is a discernible difference between the two of you. there isn't.

if you were just bitching about how shit sucks then we wouldn't be having this conversation now, would we?
