I think Twitter is capable of doing a lot of good. It's a valuable tool. But not when ABC News is posting articles about Charlie Sheen's twitter reaction to a massive earthquake in Japan or when CNN picks random tweets from random people and tries to turn them into news items.

it's just search engine optimization, it's nothing to get all bent out of shape over.

What is the point of that? I'm not really bashing the people that do it.. I'm just questioning why people do it.. for what? It doesn't really benefit anyone other than the person doing it by making them look compassionate or something. If your going to say something regarding the situation post something useful.. donate some of your millions or organize a search and rescue

Like, is this really newsworthy? http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/...ry?id=13113550
Why say anything if it doesn't actually benefit anyone? WTF is the benefit of tweeting anything? It's fucking Twitter, it's not exactly a deep and insightful place.

i was entertained by this though:

Quote:
New York Liberty guard Cappie Pondexter has apologized after causing an Internet uproar with comments on her Twitter account that were deemed insensitive toward victims of the Japanese earthquake and tsunami.

On Saturday, Pondexter tweeted: "What if God was tired of the way they treated their own people in there own country! Idk guys he makes no mistakes."

She later tweeted: "u just never knw! They did pearl harbor so u can't expect anything less."

Pondexter also used used the racially derogatory term "jap," when referring to someone who was offended by her comments.

On Monday morning, Pondexter issued an apology on her verified Twitter account "cappa23."

"I wanna apologize to anyone I may hurt or offended during this tragic time," the tweet said. "I didn't realize that my words could be interpreted in the manner which they were. People that knw me would tell u 1st hand I'm a very spiritual person and believe that everything, even disasters happen 4 a reason and that God will shouldn't be questioned but this is a very sensitive subject at a very tragic time and I shouldn't even have given a reason for the choice of words I used.

"The least thing I wanted was to hurt or offend anyone so again I truly apologize. If you've lost respect for me that's totally fine but please don't let me or my words lose the respect of u the WNBA and what it stands for.

"I'm very strong woman evn strong enough 2 admit an apologize when I'm wrong. Twitter is a voice and wth tht I wanna apologize again."
More publicity with two tweets than the WNBA usually gets in a year.

Did he fight in Japan? I know most who fought in Japan hated/ loathed the Japanese with a burning passion (rightfully so probably at the time) while people who didn't were far more sympathetic because they didn't face the atrocities the Japanese military created.

i don't think any of these people are ww2 veterans and besides that doesn't excuse racism anyway

i'd say we don't still hate germans (& nobody does, because...well.) but if there was a huge disaster there there'd be plenty of nazi jokes.

my cousin married a japanese man and my grandma (mom's side) had the nerve to say at her wedding, "i'm glad your grandfather is not alive to see this".

no, he said something racist on national television. he was a paid contributor and they decided his contributions were not welcome on their station. I'm not sure why we should just accept people's "right" to be racists.

well you should be able to call them a racist without them getting offended, it's like they don't even know what it is anymore.

it's like they know they shouldn't be but they have no idea they are. "I'm not racist but..."
