However, he broke his arm in his sophomore year, so some teams, like the San Diego Padres, lost interest. Nonetheless, Hamels was drafted in the first round of the 2002 Major League Baseball Draft by the Phillies.

steroids weren't considered cheating when they first were introduced. football players use them too, and even today, while the number of baseball players doing has dropped off in a huge way. trainers encouraged players to use them, saying it will prolong their career, make them better, and get them a better contract

When the Anabolic Steroids Control Act of 1990 became law, steroids were placed into the same class as narcotic painkillers and barbiturates by defining them as Schedule III substances.
