flipnut, apparently playing poker all day affects your eyes and your ability to read. This isn't a problem that I'm looking for a solution for. I have never been in a situation where I've thought "aw man ten whole dollars i guess i better get outta here too rich for my blood"

It's the WHY that I'm after. I just don't understand WHY. But then again it's just easier (ie - lazier) to assume the former...

This is awesome. It's like my own personal mutt chained up outside the house (thread). He just keeps barking and barking and I just don't give a shit either way.

Keep up with the name-calling though. All it does is re-confirm that you're out of ammo here.

Tell me more about these credit card transaction fees that businesses are seemingly plauged with.
Do you really not know credit card companies take profits (sometimes as high as 3 percent of the sale) from businesses? I mean, really?

I knew - I just didn't know the exact amount or why it is now a problem all of a sudden. So if they take 3% any which way, how does it matter what amount I spend?

3% of $5 is 15 cents.
3% of $500 is $15.

I fail to see the big deal. It's still 3%.

It's not always a a straight percentage. There can be up to 3 different fees tacked onto it. Some will penalize you if you do a small transaction. It's all set up to screw small local business.

They do all kinds of shitty things for example for a year they started bouncing any transaction that had a tip over 20%, they claimed it was to prevent drug dealers and terrorist from laundering money through tips.

If you a smaller business that handles a small amount of credit cards a day you can get royally fucked by credit processors. And when I say small amount I mean anything less then say 100 credit cards a day.

So once again to sum up it's not worth the cost or the headache to deal with your cheap ass. You don't like it don't go there, your 9$ tab will be sorely missed.

Ah, I see.

So the smallest company in the world has to play by the same rules as the largest? That's messed up. One would think different brackets (like in taxing) would be set in place. Or the #'s would be proportionate...

Oh wait this is America I'm talking about: From each according to his gullibility, to each according to his greed.

They do have brackets , the smaller companies pay way more then the larger companies. It's this way with everything in the service industry. Smaller bars pay more for beer then larger bars, literally everything is set up with brackets and they screw you on the brackets.

I heard about that the other day (smaller bars paying more for beer etc) and I was always under the impression that it was because, obviously, a larger bar could buy more at once so they got a better bulk deal. I'm so naive when it comes to consumerism...

The only job I had in that field was bartending at a club and our boss paid us a very hefty hourly rate + whatever our tips were. I can't believe (and am somewhat outraged) that servers/bartenders get paid like $2.50/hr and have to rely on tips solely to cover their paycheck.

I feel like, as a patron, it's not my responsibility to make sure my server can feed her kids. It's her employers. That said, I'm an excellent tipper.

Let me guess the bar that paid the hefty hourly rate is no longer in business.

You got it! It was fun while it lasted (4 years). Those were wild & crazy times. When it closed it forced me to finally get a real job, though.

I'm amazed it made it 4 years that's actually a very long life for the average club.

Every donut shop I've ever been to has a minimum credit card limit. Usually only $3-5, but still.

pretty much every single store in nyc has a minimum credit card limit these days, (except for huge chains like Mcdonalds or Burger King)...stop your bitching dude.

The reason this is in place is because you have these small mom and pop kinds of stores, (like the record store I work at for example) who sell cds and DVDs for 2 or 3 dollars, and then when people buy ring up 2 or 3 dollar tabs, we literally make zero money after all the credit card charges are taken out.

i like beer

you guys should drink more beer. it will make you happy.

slunken, why not open a tab? or was this the only time you'd visit this particular bar? if not, you could just go a few times a week (or whatever your frequency is), run up the tab, then use said credit card to pay.

It takes a bartender five to ten times as long to run a card as it does to take cash. It's a matter of logistics. If you don't like rules like this, don't comain when the bartender is busy and isn't able to serve you.

for someone who hates this board and thinks it's a waste of time you sure get upset when someone doesn't really read a thread
