Default I'm going to Chicago

the first weekend of March to visit my sister. I'm staying in a neighborhood called West Loop. That's about all I know. Would appreciate any suggestions of things I should do while I'm there.

So far my itinerary is going to the Publican, taking a thumbs-up Wrigley Field pic, and trying to track down some guy that has owed me tapes for over a year. Saturday I get to wander around Wicker Park because my sis has some meetings. I know Reckless Records is there but that's really it. And I'm tired of going record shopping in different cities because vinyl is a bitch to haul back. Definitely hitting up the museum to see all the Joseph Cornell boxes.

Only serious suggestions will be considered.

I'll be there Friday at 2 until Sunday at 3. Not really sure what I'm looking for by posting this but I figured it wouldn't hurt. I like out-of-the-way obscure places that are like local secrets.

Does anybody know about that coin-operated machine museum? Would that be worth tracking down?

while you're in wicker park, there is an excellent falafel place called "sultan's market"
also you could go to chinatown and buy some knives

i guess i should preface this by saying i'm a complete asshole who has an italian father who makes pizza all the time

anyways the kind i'm used to having is basically the complete opposite of chicago style--bread flour crust, very little sauce, and really thin. plus i think i had a bad experience with chicago pizza when I Was like ten. there is one place in champaign that does chicago style that I like, but generally I avoid it if possible

Pizza is delicious.

Chicago "pizza" is a casserole.

I prefer Neapolitan-style pizza over deep dish (or Chicago) but a good slice of a hearty Chicago pizza is kickass.

Who's pizza is better? New York or Chicago? Because when I think of pizza I think of NY, not Chi. Or are they just two completely different variations on the same theme? When I think of deep dish I think of Pizza Hut. Is that a crime I should atone for?

I'm trying to push for Piece Pizza on Saturday (karaoke) but it's looking more like Friday night.

NY is thin crust - usually Neapolitan-style (though like cheesecake, most NY pizza is massively overrated). Chicago is deep dish - similar to what you're thinking but usually more thicker. It really is like a casserole pizza. Very think, very hearty.

I think definitions of "stuffed" and "deep dish" get kind of muddled. I don't think there are too many important differences though. I have more experienced with the stuffed variety. And who cares if it's a casserole, kyravenguy. IT'S WONDERFUL.

But he's thinking the right thing - ala a deep dish pizza is more similar to Chicago-style than the typical pizza. I shudder to think of PH though.

He's not American right? These things aren't as obvious to him probably.
