5 yards/carry and 2 TDs for the heisman trophy winning back. while the QB goes 5 for 11 and under 60 yards. that is generally speaking a winning formula. you're not winning this argument.

i unno man they seemed pretty ready to pounce on that ball. i think it was a fake squib. i think i've seen that in soccer before where you try and kick the ball as hard as you can against the wall in hopes that someone gets the rebound.

by the way i have to ask, since statboy is all about stats...texas is the #1 rushing defense in the country: have they faced one single player on the talent level of the #2 alabama guy? the answer is an emphatic no.
stats mean dick. it's about the score. period. |

uh i said the week of the oklahoma game that if texas won they were for real
i went on to wish texas luck repeatedly and hoped it would be a good game jesus christ the pass rush was insane, but if you think the rush defense was good then you're ignoring 4 rushing td's, two backs running wild, and controlling the game |

I wasn't impressed with Texas's defense at all. Ingram is a good RB, but he's not so good that a defense playing well shouldn't be able to bottle him up. And Richardson certainly is not as good as Ingram. You don't give up a 50 yard play from scrimmage to either one of these guys if you're playing solid defense. And you certainly don't allow both guys over 100 yards. Texas made those guys look like Darren McFadden and Felix Jones out there instead of like the mere pretty good SEC backs they are.
The one area Texas played well on defense was pass coverage. McElroy had plenty of time to throw whenever he dropped back, but no one to throw to. Almost every time McElroy got pressured it was because he held the ball trying to make something happen rather than getting rid of it. But it didn't matter, Texas needed to make it so McElroy had to step up and beat them (which I don't think he's good enough to have done), but the run defense was so weak that McElroy's poor performace wasn't an issue. The best defense for Texas tonight would have been McCoy being healthy and possibly sustaining a drive or two to keep Bama's offense off the field for a while. |

Proud of the fight Texas showed. Gilbert was getting settled in the 2nd half finally and looked more like the qb he will eventually be.
Completely fucked up game plans on both sides without McCoy and that just sucks. Next year though might end this record run of 10 win seasons the Horns have pieced together. Bama doesn't really lose anyone of importance, right? |

Alabama and Ohio State will clearly be ahead of the pack next year.
Miami will be a salty team too. |

McClain will likely go to the draft. I believe last night 7 seniors were on defense. Our star linebacker Dont'a Hightower will be back from injury and a junior. The offense will be very experienced - that's the main thing. You know a Saban defense will be dominant no matter what.

This is why the BCS is shameful:
LSU finished the season 9-4 with a loss to Penn State. Penn State finished the year 11-2 with a win over LSU. LSU is ranked 11 in the final BCS poll, where PSU is 12. What the flying fuck sense is that? |

Believe what you want to, but giving up two 100 yard rushers against a team that was running such a conservative "let's not kick these guys when they're down" offense is not what I call a good defensive performance.
Quote:
Anyhow, I'm gonna go ahead and tell everybody to mark it down. Arkansas beats Alabama in September. Mallett announced today that he's coming back next year, so that basically means that the entire offense is coming back. They're going to be scary good. |

Just watch. Even if Bama's defense gets to reload instead of rebuild after what they lose, they still aren't going to be what they were this season. And thus they aren't going to be there to save Bama's bacon when McElroy or Ingram have a bad game.
Arkansas has 10 starters coming back from the #1 offense in the SEC. And Bama has to come to Fayetteville. Maybe it's a homer pick, but I still like Arkansas's chances. Bama will probably still be very good, and might very well still win the SEC West...but I don't think they run the table again in 2010. |

The game plan was to run as much clock as possible and push the freshman QB inside his 10 over and over because there was no way he would come back and win the game. That's why Saban was calling a run up the middle 3 times and punting when they got stopped. There weren't even pass attempts on 3rd and long until Gilbert got some points on the board.

i mean you really think that strategy means that they didn't want to beat texas real bad? i mean, what?
sitting on the ball is the easiest way to win the game and what you usually try to do against an explosive offense or a defense you're trying to wear out but don't want to take any risks on. fact of the matter is that the strategy that you concede alabama has leads more credence to my argument since the fact that the texas defense was on the field so much it's kind of miraculous they did rather well, all things considered. |
