I think the Pac-10 looked deep this week - much more than I gave them credit for.
Ok St. really disappointed me - I thought they would be much better - although Houston is a halfway decent program. The Big-12 does not look near as good as I thought it would. I think I would rank the conferences: SEC Pac-10 * * Big-12 * * Big East Big-10 Mountain West ACC |

I'm off the USC as top-5 material bandwagon for now.
MAYBE ND CAN UPSET THEM!!! I'm fully aware that I'm setting myself up for more disappointment, and I should really, really have learned my lesson by now....but............. SC ain't as good this year as they have been. And we get them at home. The rest of our schedule is garbage. MSU, BC, and USC are all at home. It's still likely (disturbing as this may be) that ND will get into a BCS bowl. Where they can embarrass all of us one more time. woooooooo goddamn it i cannot believe i let myself be that hopeful. |

...also, let me say that I have never in my life seen as classless a fan base as I saw in Ann Arbor. Don't get me wrong, I met a lot of reasonable, cool people there. But wow.
I've been to East Lansing twice, New Orleans with throngs of LSU fans, Knoxville....maybe I'm forgetting some. But never, ever in my life have I been treated like I was yesterday. We are always very welcoming to visiting fans here. As corny as that sounds. I used to think ND/UM was a rivalry that had a thick layer of respect underlying it. Maybe they were all stupiud freshmen. I don't know. But it was appalling. |

Notre Dame and Penn State fans are always very nice when we play them, according to my grandparents.

I agree. I would take Cal as the top team in the Pac-10. USC did not look great against tOSU and that is saying a lot as tOSU is not a very good team in my opinion. I would rank the top-25 as follows:
1 Florida 2 Texas 3 Brigham Young 4 California 5 Alabama 6 Mississippi 7 Penn State 8 USC 9 LSU 10 Georgia Tech 11 Oklahoma 12 Cincinnati 13 Boise State 14 TCU 15 Oklahoma State 16 Virginia Tech 17 Oregon State 18 Utah 19 Ohio State 20 Nebraska 21 Michigan 22 Houston 23 UCLA 24 Georgia 25 Baylor |

I really don't think that Ole Miss or LSU are top 10 teams. They both will lose 3-5 games before all is said and done based on what we've seen so far. The SEC west is going to be brutal this year. Auburn, Arkansas, and even Mississippi State will get a few wins at the expense of the top half of the division.
And it's completely batshit insane that Ole Miss is going to be a top 5 team before they play anybody even halfway decent. But then again, it's not like there are many teams from 11-20 that I think have a legit top 10 case. |

The dropoff from Texas and Florida is staggering.
Penn State is effectively the fifth-best team in football yet has a horrible offensive line that cannot hold up a running game against Akron and Syracuse. Ohio State looked better than I imagined against USC - and USC will breeze through the Pac 10 (Cal isn't better, I don't think). |

Not so much here. Cal and Oregon State have looked very good so far - have you gotten a chance to watch Oregon State yet - they looked mid-season against UNLV. I even expect the Washington USC game to be close - that is, I expect USC to have trouble with the Pac-10's NINTH best team. It will be no cakewalk for USC this year. |

Haven't seen Oregon State, but have seen Cal. I think USC will get better and better as the season goes on, and as the offense matures. They did play an Ohio State team that played an entire game above themselves and won in one of the toughest places to play in the country.
With a freshman qb. That said, I hope the USC campus is burned in a wildfire. |

So Colt McCoy was sick as fuck the first half against Tech. They pumped a bunch of fluids into him at halftime, and he didn't miss a pass the 2nd half. Wish the Heisman voters would have known his status going into the game. He's still in good shape though.

Perhaps you should focus on winning the Big 12 before obsessing over your boy's Heisman hopes.

So Dogfighter, what's your feeling on the game this weekend between the Tide and the Hogs? We're still holding out a sliver of hope here even after the disappointment against Georgia, since it looks like our offense really is as awesome as we hoped it would be (Ryan Mallett is clearly one of the top 2 or 3 QBs in the conference). But our defense is even worse than we feared it would be. They were decent against the run, but the secondary (if you can call them that) made Joe frickin Cox look like Dan Marino. I don't expect things to improve much, especially not in Tuscaloosa, but I think it should be a good game.

Arkansas usually finds a way to piss of Bama fans it seems, even when they suck. So I'm not counting them completely out of the game just yet.
But... If we can put up 500+ yards on VT, then Arkansas had better be really fucking scared. Two weeks ago Julio Jones and Mark Ingram both basically sat out the game and the offense still rolled all over the place. Bama normally has a very conservative offense (read: boring and unproductive) but this year it's almost as good as the defense has been. If we keep it up, Florida had better be scared. Oh yeah, McElroy is twice the QB John Parker Wilson ever was or ever will be. Guy has never lost a game in his life, backed up Chase Daniel in high school, and is a super smart defense dismantler. He can only get better with experience. Here's my favorite stat: Bama's four backs are averaging 6.8, 7.4, 5.6, and 9.7 yards a carry. Each with at least 10 carries and 100 yards, so definitely not skewed numbers. I don't know too much about Arkansas other than Petrino not knowing what the hell defense is. I'm also not sure Georgia is very good. Oh well like I said you'll probably find some way to make it a game based on history. |

I don't think Bama has played an offense anywhere near as good as Arkansas has (and may not play one all year). I know Bama has improved a little on offense, but from what I've seen I don't know if they're high powered enough to win a shootout. I guess it just depends on whether Bama's vaunted defense can slow down the Arkansas passing game enough to keep it from turning into a shootout (though I hear Bama's secondary has been a little suspect?) At any rate, I think the game will be far from the runaway it was last year.

They probably just decided to go somewhere that wasn't filled with Longhorns fans. I doubt it was because they were discouraged by the massive 6 point lead that Georgia (and the fucking referees) had amassed at the half.

Ole Miss is being EXPOSED.
Snead has absolutely no poise. I've heard the announcers talk about him for the last year and never has he lived up to the hype. |

Indeed. Even if they pull this out, there's no way they stay in the top 5. Snead has regressed under Nutt. Whatever skill at QB he may have learned during his time with the Longhorns has been choked out of him now. Houston Nutt's offense is where quarterbacks go to die.
