when you own a house is it too much to ask to have at least six feet of space between houses? seems like it is. and preferably i'd rather have much more than that.

see, with me, i'd much rather a house than an apartment. i've been apt-livin' for like 9 years now - i'm done, yo.

i don't see anything good about owning a house other than the ability to sell it.

Yeah.. I picked Emma before I knew how popular it was. But I had an uber popular name too, it never really bothered me...

I'm still open to other names, I just haven't found anything else that I like as much.

ah, suburban bliss
We traded that for having a larger back yard, since it's a corner lot. It's shaped like a pie, so little front and side yards, big fenced-in back yard. Better for the pups.

The ability to fix things myself, instead of having to wait on the maintenance guy to come by and do a shitty job that he'll just have to redo in a week or two.

Being able to paint the walls any color I want, put up any pictures I want without having a landlady yell at me for "putting holes in the walls".

A sense of permanence... I've moved 12 times in the last 10 years. It'll be very nice to have a place that is MINE, knowing that I won't have to move again for a long, long time.

Not getting notes from the landlady that say "We're turning the water off on Tuesday because we're fixing something in someone else's apartment"

No one except ME has a key to my house, unlike here, where the maintenance guy, the bug guy, and any other person my landlady designates can walk in any time they want when I'm not here.

The ability to improve the place to be more energy efficient, instead of dealing with this shitty AC that sucks electricity.

Having visitors without checking in with the office to get them parking passes.

Etc etc... I fucking hate living in an apartment.

you know a house costs far far more on that front no matter how "energy efficient" it is.

while everything you said is more or less a draw back, i suppose (though you can buy condos), i'd never want to live in a house because of how wasteful it is in terms of land and population density.

When you're doing your taxes, it asks you if you're a first time home buyer. If you choose yes, you get $8k credited to your taxes. Pretty sure you have to submit a copy of the paperwork to prove it. Kinda simple :/

Oh wait, you're not American, my bad... I thought you were just trying to be a smartass

We're using the $8k for home improvements and new furniture and whatnot.
