Default going through a relative's possessions after they pass on

it's been almost 3 years and i've just started going through some of my brother's stuff in the past few weeks. my parents didn't want to do it, so i was given the task after moving back home. i haven't come across anything freakish like the skeleton of a baby, but i have learned some new things about him in regards to his music taste. i never knew he liked any rap, but he has this dr. octagon cd... very weird. from the cover, i thought it would have been something metal. some of this stuff i knew he had, it's like a trip down memory lane. i remember him trying to get me into some of these bands. i feel guilty for not making more of an effort to get to know him better.

27, which is kind of strange because he has a cd from that band.

not to be a dick, but every case of anyone talking about anything personal or emotionally charged here pretty much ends up being mocked. it's just a bad idea.

my family has a tradition where we have friends go through all of the things and give it all away. we don't believe in keeping their things around so their spirit goes on and doesn't hang around.

how did your brother die? it's a little eerie going through someone's things after they're dead. i have notebooks and notebooks full of poetry from a passed family member. i've tried reading it but i just break down. maybe some day i'll be able to.

i have no feelings and are therefore unable to comprehend any sort of emotions you may be feeling by doing what you are doing.

When my parents die, I'm just going to either sell all their shit and throw away or burn the rest.

I think that's what you should be doing now. Going through all of it is just a huge fucking waste of time.

is bad etiquette unless you have been given previous permission to do so
