I was going to when I lived in Austin (and was poor) and saw the advert in the paper.

But I chickened out.

They hook you up to 2 tubes. One tube takes the blood out, runs it through a machine that takes out the plasma, and then puts the plasma-less blood back into you via the 2nd tube.

I hear it makes you cold and tired.

Last time I tried they said 'no' cause i'm anemic. and something about having gotten a tattoo.

They must be a little more picky than the American Red Cross because I've donated a bunch of times at work and when I was at college and the only medication that I was on that they asked about was Accutane. Weird.

Nope, I'm not trying that again. I've given blood twice and both times resulted in me passing out, waking up...passing out again...waking up, and acting a fool. =P
I obviously have low-blood sugar, and I knew that before I gave blood both times, and took multiple precautions (ate a shit load before hand, drank a huge amount of orange juice, etc.,) but I still passed out both times. So yeah, I don't think it's worth the embarrassment.

between 2004 and 2006 I used to donate every time the blood bank came to campus. I haven't donated since for two reasons.. one because of the fact that I'm not around a place where they conveniently come to you, and two because it's technically illegal for me to donate blood because of my tattoos. I'm pretty sure the time span is it becomes legal 6 months after you've been tattooed. fear of transmitting diseases etc etc..
