Default Will you still financially support Billy Corgan?

Will you buy another concert ticket, album, shirt, download, etc. to support the front man of the Smashing Pumpkins?

He no longer should get a free pass, benefit of the doubt or anything else. He's washed up and pissing on his grave. He can do that all day, but I hope most of us aren't sheep and will follow him on his way.

This is a man, who last night in Cleveland, said:
Quote:
I live in a big house because of you; you'll pay me to do whatever up here.
This is a man not worth supporting. I call for a financial boycott of the Smashing Pumpkins and anything relating to Billy Corgan.

fuck no. i'll still illegally download his music though.

i don't know, i'll probably go to a show again someday. sentimentality and all. But I think the guy's turned into a first class dick. Well, he always has been, but i'm admitting it now.

i attended three asheville shows and bought a shirt. never bought zeitgeist. the newest songs really kinda suck. completely self absorbed. tried to capitalize on the trendiness of being politically outspoken with the themes on zeitgeist, but never really gives more than a vague opinion on world affairs. the man knows very little about what's outside his own bubble. surrounded by highly paid yes men. one of these days he's gonna molest a middle schooler and then he'll just be the michael jackson of 90's alternative...which is somehow worse than being michael jackson.

I like the new songs (I even liked American Gothic), but I will not give my cash to Billy Corgan unless it's for a decent show, and not that sad excuse of a 20th anniversary tour that is everything but an anniversary tour. Not buying any CDs anymore, either.

This is one time I wish Billy would look at netphoria. If he wants his fans to hate him, he should at least see how well he's succeeding.

And it's not SP with James and D'arcy right?

Let's take nonsense on stage Billy banter and put more behind it than we should.

If you don't like him, don't buy anything. I don't know how this was worth another thread.

THis is not only about the banter at that show, but Billy's lack of consideration for his fans/costumers. Did you read the comments on last night's show? How about the 5 star VIP ticket crap? He cares more about the Guitar Hero crowd than the fans that have stuck with the band all these years.

i think it's still sp without james and darcy. but i also think billy corgan doesn't give a shit about the people who really care about his band, and i think that's really pathetic.
"oh woe is me, people don't GET it, they don't GET ME." What the fuck ever. It's like he doesn't really want anyone to get him. He wants to take the few people who do and kick them in the head. I've spent plenty of time defending him, but i'm done. That doesn't mean i'm not a fan of the band anymore, but I'm certainly not a fan of billy anymore.

nah, he's much worse than he was in the 90s. I think in the 90s he was aiming that shit at "everyone else", but knew and cared who the real fans were. I always remember he'd be playing a silverfuck jam, and he'd point at the empty seats and say "we aren't playing for those people, we're playing for you!" And I believed that bs back then. but now those empty seat people are mostly gone, so he's turning his vitriol on the rest of us.

I'll probably pick up the dvd and will see them live again if they play near enough. I doubt I'll buy the next cd since I haven't bought any cd's anyway for over a year now and I didn't particularly like Zeitgeist (nor AG,SC and GLOW for that matter). Band shirts are not my thing anyway so I doubt I'll buy those either.

I COULD do with some more SP vinyl though since all I have is Gish.

The new tunes showed promise. If they put out the next one on vinyl and I like it, I'll probably buy it.

I still could not imagine calling any other band my favourite. I still rock out to SP on a daily basis

I'm done with him, and his cheap carbon copy of his old band. Jimmy, you can piss off as well... you're clearly not the brightest crayon in the box. Something tells me the moral compass of the band left in 2000.

i understand how pissed you seem, but i think everyone is taking this "I live in a big house because of you" line out of context. He was joking with the crowd. It was fun. People laughed...

that line is not really what bothers me. it's a culmination of lots of things over the years, but i think that making a big deal about these anniversary shows and then giving the performance they've given... it's just fucked up. Billy just doesn't care about those of us who care about him. Seems pretty obvious to me. I haven't really seen any positive reviews from people who've attended the shows the past two nights. People had high expectations and billy's just sort of making a mockery of it all. Having sense of humor is great, but this goes beyond that as far as I can tell. I just see a big douche on stage saying "fuck you all".

So fucking what? He makes money for what he loves to do. Fuck, if I knew I was making shitloads of cash for something people did for me, I'd flaunt it. Not all the time, but I'd let them know. It's basic economics of America. That is, unless, you decide to vote for the so-called 'change' of Obama. Now it's political.

I think it's pretty funny how personal this shit has become to some of the 'fans'. Think about his perspective, the guy has nothing to give a shit about anymore. Uninspired? hey so are most of us living in the world today. Nothing this guy does mainstream is going to mean shit anymore, infact nothing mainstream means shit anymore, this industry don't have no fucking soul.

The only thing that matters is him getting back some of his glory with this name and his insubstantial self meaning to the growing obsolete audiences he points his shiny head at. Face it kids, this music really don't 'mean' anything from him anymore. The guy is practically begging you people to turn your back on him, he needs that desertion to either fuck off or make something worthwhile.

I mean 'I live in a big house because of you, you'll pay me to do whatever up here'?
The guy is exactly right, there is a self loathing in that statement right there. He is extremely out of touch, grasping to stay cool, even though he never was cool. He is stuck in the horrible loop of money over meaning, percieved relevance over reason and all that other shit that surrounds the industry he is so corruptly tied to.

A really bitter end to one of the more relevant sparks to light the music industry culture a decade ago.

So yeah, I agree in that sense with the OP.

I haven't read the show threads, please don't spoiler anything else besides typical rock star stage banter that SP fans should know better by now.

to me it's not a question of supporting the man or not. i've never bought something to "financially support billy corgan".

if they release something that i'm interested in, i'll buy it. and otherwise i won't.
