Default Training with the SWAT team is fucking awesome

They needed some volunteers and I gave it a shot. They gave me a bulletproof vest and an AR-15 and Glock 19 loaded with sim rounds and told me to try to kill cops as they busted in the dilapidated house I was holed up in. It was like GTA in real life. I've got plenty of welts from getting shot up several times but it was totally worth it.

We trained with SWAT but it wasn't as cool as your experience obviously was.

goddammit i wanna do that shit.

A friend of mine got his wrist broken accidentally by a rookie cop in a simulation once because the rookie used the wrong technique trying to get him down and handcuff him. They payed him some pretty good money not to make a big deal about it.

Yeah I can see how that could happen as those fuckers don't pull any punches. I gotta admit it's pretty intimidating to storm out a door to see an armored response vehicle and 8 assault rifles pointed at you.

All I did was go with them as we ran through a scenario as if someone broke into work and was trying to make off with some chemicals.

We had to go through what "help" we'd give them as far as where the person could be hiding in the building.

It was kinda cool but your experience sounds awesome.

I had an inside line as I'm good friends with a couple of guys who work as SWAT medics. According the the team coordinator they strongly prefer volunteers either from the regular law enforcement or public service pools as playing bad guy would obviously give you insight into their tactics/training. If you plan on being a desperado I'd strongly suggest investing in a gasmask as most of the time that's the first thing coming through the window (non-caustic smoke for training but it still completely screws your vision).

There were 3 scenarios. One was a random shootout that was over really quick and the other was a hostage scenario that lasted 45-60 minutes. I ran through each scenario twice as there were two teams. Man I'm pretty welted up today but it was totally worth it.

During the shootout scenario I shot 2 the first time and 0 the second :/

During the standoff I was able to take out 3 on the first team and 2 on the second. The house we were in had a natural funnel point on an interior hallway that really hindered them. After the second flashbang I wasn't able to do shit though.

With all their armor body shots wouldn't do any good though and I only hit 2 headshots.. so I guess if I'm in a standoff I have a 50% chance of dropping someone.

that's a pretty high percentage for an officer to be killed

Yeah well I also had a pretty good idea of the breach points and knew I wasn't going to actually be killed so I wasn't overwhelmed by the show of force.

you got flashbanged?

AWESOME. I'd let some random cop flashbang me just for the hell of it.

They told me the ones they use for training aren't nearly as intense but they still rattled my chest from the next room. I had to wear hearing protection which kinda fucked me up in the house trying to listen for windows breaking/doors coming down.

They train once a month and if I'm able to do it again next month I'll try to get some pics.
