This rather stupid. The correct way would have been to take away the xbox until the brats promise to behave. This will turn out to be an expensive action for the moron who destroyed that device.

Bad behavior at work breaks careers. Bad behavior in society sometimes breaks lives. Bad behavior here on the XBox resulted in the XBox being broken (with prior warning). Yes, here is a powerful lesson to be learned. Comparative reference between an XBox and a living pet is a false cause fallacy. Breaking a toy versus hurting a pet is a poor analogy.

Yes, excellent lesson. Now that you've destroyed your boys Xbox that they probably worked SO hard for...Oh wait a tick....Did the parents buy this? Maybe mom or dad's hard earned money wasted on that tree? Clearly a well thought out plan. Teach my children that bad behavior = destroy sh*t. Outstanding parenting skills. Do your kids have pets? I hope not. I get the chilling image of them not being able to house break poor sparky & you nailing ...

The kids misbehave and the tree gets punished with a nail?
I'm sure the XBOX carcas will serve as a good reminder of the punishment, but the guts will likely leach toxic metals now that they are exposed to the elements.
I can understand the frustration that leads to destruction, but it doesn't resolve the underlying problem - the kids were not behaving appropriate for the time and place. Destroying the XBOX is a little like taking you...

I can understand the frustration that leads to destruction, but it doesn't resolve the underlying problem - the kids were not behaving appropriate for the time and place. Destroying the XBOX is a little like taking your kid home because they throw a tantrum while shopping - it doesn't solve the problem, it avoids the problem.
Perhaps a better punishment would have been to remove the power cord, keep the kids from playing the XBOX, then occasionally gather the kids to watch mom and dad play the XBOX. The kids still get to see the XBOX they can no longer play, but even better is they get to see others behaving correctly while playing "their" XBOX. This leave open the option that after some extended time that kids will once again have the opportunity to earn the XBOX back through appropriate behavior.

I find it comforting to see the mostly-positive support. This is a powerful disciplinary lesson. This parent targeted a contributor to his children's repeated misbehavior. Teaching behavioral accountability is a basic responsibility many parents abdicate. His sons will likely become well-behaved gentlemen who understand boundaries with sometimes tough punishment for acting poorly.

This reminds the childern who the real parents are and who sets the rules. I know, many say " Give them time out" Please! Life has consequences and they are being taught this lesson by their father and mother. Sounds like good parenting to me.

I think you did a good thing in showing your boys that by fighting no one gets it. Following thru on threats is a big deal with me, you give it, then you need to follow thru on it. I dont care how foolish it may be or how stupid others might think it is. That to me is good parenting... to say the least. GOOD JOB!

I love dumbpeople's comment! It supports the argument that some kids should never be allowed to have a game system in the first place.
Click to view mrstanetoyou's profile mrstanetoyou // 58 minutes ago
Good for the children. Video games hype children and adults up. Alot children start fighting eachother over it. Serves them right. If my son gets out of hand, I will probably do something similar. When I showed the pic he just gasped.....lol

As a father of 3 kids I applaude this father who decided to quit hearing his ownvoice and act. And for all you young people who still live at Mommy and Daddys house, dont tell me you saved money to buy a gaming system. Did you offer your parents the money first to help pay a mortgage payment or car payment? Or say "Dont worry about it, i'll pay for the grocerys this week"?

ummmmm, instead of trashing working items, how about having the kids walk it over to Goodwill and donate it. Now you have to recycle a damaged piece of electronics which everyone knows is a pain from trying to unload old PC's, prnters, etc.
Click to view KAKYL's profile KAKYL // 1 hour ago
1.) Why would you nail it to a tree when you could either just throw it away, or better yet, just don't allow your children to play it for a week or two? (I find that hiding the controllers works quite well) 2.) Why did you feel the need to put this on the internet?

WELL DONE! I have discarded my sons' toys before after repeated warnings to behave. Similar warnings now yield improved behavior. This parent creatively asserted authority. Those who mention getting the XBox360 or label his parenting as poor are part of a culture raising spoiled and instantly gratified children. I think the father needs to take some anger management as well as parenting classes. I am sure there are better and more productive ways to educate your children regarding their behavior.

kids need to learn that what parents giveth they can taketh away. I learned that lesson watching the Bill Cosby. :-)

Xbox, TV, ADHD Drugs are all tools parents use to get out of spending quality time with their kids and actually parenting.

Good job! Making idle threats has become the way of the American Parent. By following through, you have taken a step in reigning in your children. Too bad most parents are the "touchy-feely, want to be my childs friend" type of parents. Those that say this is bad parenting need to go hug a rock. Definite kudos to you for doing what you say!!

Good! Now the kids can get the XBOX 360 they really wanted (that one was the original XBOX and WAAAAY outdated). A little guilt from dad over loosing his temper won't hurt the cause either. Good to see kids can still manipulate to get their way!

hahahahahaha...fantastic. Now, if we could just stop parents from doctor shopping to get an ADHD diagnoses to use as an excuse for their lousy parenting...hmmm, and maybe people will go back to doling out a judicious spanking once in a while to get their kids' heads on straight. Enough with the kid gloves.
