What Villain Would You Like To See in the Next Batman Movie?

Because Batman has a 70-year history and because he can't fight The Joker and The Riddler all the time, he has made a lot of enemies in his various incarnations. One list I saw counts 136 Batman villains, and there may even be more. Since they won't make enough movies to cover them all, not that all them belong on screen, let's see if we can pick the right one(s) for the third installment. After all, Christian Bale said he'd love to be back...if Christopher Nolan is back on board. I don't know how you could pass it up if you're Nolan, but directors are funny cats. Sometimes they go off and make all sorts of bizarre movies instead of finishing what they'd started.

I loved the way Nolan used Ra's al Guhl and The Scarecrow in Batman Begins, and The Joker has bell well-documented. But does bringing back The Joker in The Dark Knight mean they have to use the other villains everyone remembers from the TV show?

I would think Catwoman would be a popular choice, but Harley Quinn, which has been suggested, would be a better way to go because of her connection to The Joker, a connection the audience now rabidly shares. Having said that, I don't know if she's a character worth devoting most of a movie to, so she'd be ideal if they somehow brought Two-Face back again, which I wouldn't have any problem with, especially since it's easy enough to explain in a way that already fits the established characters and settings in Gotham City.


Truthfully, Black Mask might be the way I'd go here. Though he doesn't have the history of a lot of the better-known villains (he was created in 1985), his story is very closely linked to Bruce Wayne, he was locked up in Arkham Asylum, and he's a crime lord and drug pusher. The Nolan Batman movies have spent all of their time making this wounded Gotham a real character in the storyline, and Black Mask works with both the narrative and the visual aesthetic Nolan has created.

I would like to see: Harley Quinn (Kate Winslet), Two Face (Aaron Eckhart) and Black Mask (Mickey Rourke)

What combinations of villains could you justify? And...who should play them?

i've never read batman comics so i don't really know any of the lesser villains, but i could probably invent one. how about...evil alfred?

or how about a batman movie which is more like an old detective thriller, with a villain so mysterious nobody even knows who is behind all the big crimes happening. some really slick mofo who works completely alone, under the radar, and gives batman a real headache trying to catch up with him. you could call him "wraith" or "mr.x" or something. and he might look like the terrible trivium from the phantom tollbooth.

Under the puppet's psychological influence, Wesker is a dangerous criminal and crime boss. It has been implied that the Ventriloquist suffers from multiple personality disorder.

i'd like to see philip seymour hoffman as the penguin.

but that won't happen. nolan has said he wouldn't do the penguin or ever bring in robin. the penguin would probably just turn into a regular mob boss in nolans batman world anyway. I just think hoffman is one hell of an actor.

i would pick paul bettany as the riddler but hugh laurie would be a good choice as well.

I would too, there just aren't that many characters that fit into this hyper reality nolan world. I mean there are tons of gangster like characters but that has been done.

Riddler - decent choice, some say to similar to joker but i don't think so.
Blackmask - i don't know much about him but i've read some good sounding outlines for this character being inserted into the next one. Sort of another Gangster boss but it involves bruce wayne more.
Killer Croc -could test batman's brawn, i believe nolan told the animators that he wasn't allowed to have a tail in the batman gotham knight dvd. Pretty out there though.
Catwoman-not going to happen
Ra's Al Ghul- already been done but could return
Mister Freeze-character was ruined by Arnold. could be ok but not sure if it will work.
Bane - kinda lame but some people really like him.
Harley Quinn- would have worked well if Joker was still in the picture.
