Arrow recommend me a record player

my cheap 10-yr old RCA one is dying.

I got a bonus at work.

Now is the time.

this one looks good, but I absolutely wouldn't want to spend any more than how much this is (188 currently).

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...pr_product_top

anyone have any other suggestions or recommendations for other players.

looks like a decent purchase, i'd always go for a direct drive. Check whether replacing the needle is expensive on that model, and check availability i'd say.

dying is an overstatement, I guess- the belt drive is going (hey, it's playing a bit fast! oop, now this time it's playing a bit slow!) and I'm pretty sure I need a new needle. I'm guessing this could be fixed if I really wanted to, but I want a nicer one than a no frills RCA player bought at Radio Shack, I guess.

it ain't a sin to want an upgrade.

i'm not a gearhead but as i understand it clint's recommendation is like the telecaster of turntables. all the bells and whistles you'd want for something affordable.

I've got a Marantz Model 6300 that sounds great.

But I'm sure you're probably looking for something newer.

I got a 20-year-old piece by Sony, and it's working perfectly fine.

$400 is too much for me. If I had the money, I think it'd be a no brainer- this one seems to be mentioned whenever you see discussion of turntables.

clint reccomends dj turntables all the time because he's a poser. do you need a direct drive player with pitch control and can take a shit ton of abuse? i'd just go for a 99 sony if you're desperate or if you're into usb ports in sticking things in them and pulling them out and putting them back in and pulling them out, there are those 99 usb turntables and whatnot. but yeah, dont pay 400 bucks for a turntable tank you dont even need. i hate clint with the power of satan.

you dont need to purchase such a turntable if you're using it simply for listening pleasure.

invest in good cartridges/styli, you'll be fine

i have the PL120

it's a solid player that i would definitely recommend for the price range

not having to deal with belt-drive is great

I did buy that turntable and set it up last night. As is my wont, I christened it with some Pink Floyd.

Booya.

Pretty good for the one album I've played on it!

Happy with it so far. Seems pretty fucking durable. You could probably beat the shit out of someone with it if you wanted to.

just make sure to take the headshell off first so you don't damage the needle.
