Thumbs down Jury duty

If the government is going to make you waste a day listening to two-bit court-appointed lawyers trying to defend some slimeball who beat his wife, you'd think they should at least pay you minimum wage or something. And it's on July 3rd, to boot. Thanks for fucking up my holiday weekend because the state needs to defend some doofus who ran over his neighbor's cat and is being sued for mental anguish or some shit.

How many of you, like me, have had the unfortunate experience of having served on a jury before? I've called in three times, served once....the one time I served was happened to be the first time I had ever been called up. I was like 18 at the time, too.

Neither of the lawyers were any good either. The defense lawyer was probably a court-appointed hack, and the DA looked like she was fresh out of law school and in way over her head. She simply could not make a convincing argument to save her life. I really wanted to turn in a "guilty" verdict, because the bastard on the defense seemed like such an asshole, but there simply wasn't enough evidence.

So it really was about a cat getting smushed?

Unfortunately no. That would have been far more entertaining. It was some restaurant owner trying to avoid liability for something, I can't remember.

I really liked jury duty. I got to see an attempted murder trial. It took four days, I got paid $20 a day plus a full day's pay at work. I think even if I did not get paid, I probably still would have liked it. It was really interesting.

Here, you get about $15 for a full day's work. I make more than that taking a shit at my job.

By the way, my former coworker gets out of it every time by sending them a letter back that says the only one who can judge people is Jesus, and since she is not Jesus she refuses. Try that next time, it works for her.

I'm pretty sure she is. She's fairly religious.

the last job i held at a company would pay you what you would normally make that day minus the money you were paid at jury duty. so if you were a part time employee and would only work 4 hours but were in the court room for 8 hours you were screwed out of work time
