HOW THE FUCK DO I FIX MY MIC SETTINGS

my friend doesn't hear me properly in skype. i apparently sound like darth vader and very softly. i've tried everything in the standard sound settings but even if the mic level's at the top, the signal is very weak. it even has an option 'mic boost' on.

HELP
