was thinking marin headlands, looks like there's some sweet trails there. then maybe a trip to santa cruz or seomthing. seems like this is a great area for it.

i didn't realize how expensive these bikes were. i went to a shop today, didn't pick one up yet. me and a couple pals are trying to get goign by saturday, not sure how likely that is. doesn't seem to be very common that places rent or demo bikes, and most of them seem to need to be fitted/adjusted/whatever.

hmm.

i used to mountain bike everyday...

i live in a city now. i dont have a bike here, theres too many hills. i guess city folk might drive out of town to go biking but thats too much hassel.

the only time i got fuckered up off adrenaline was from biking. my town was on a plateau so i could get a lot of speed going downhill, i braked on loose gravel when a truck was coming around a corner a went flying into the woods. i remember i was listening to the vines 'get free' and thinking i was going to die. i landed on a big rock with my mangled bike on top of me....once the driver came to see how i was i got up and i was walking around frantically and talking alot. he got me to sit down. i was vin no pain then, but about 30 minutes later i couldnrt even walk

i used to live in Canada near alot of those forest runs with the wooden paths and see-saws etc

you should buy an alloy - perhaps that's obvious - something as lightweight as possible

there are many things to consider - such as brakes, supsension, frame shape etc etc

for an alloy i suggest a titanium/aluminium mix - as steel is a very short-lasting metal

what's the story with those cannondales with the front "fork" that isn't a fork, but just one bar on one side of the wheel? the rest of the bike looks awesome, that part is freaking me out

That was uncomfortable.

yeah i dont plan on actually riding it in the city, first destination is marin headlands, then maybe santa cruz.. one of the things that makes this seem like a good thing to do is to get out of the city, sometimes it's a bummer when it's windy and cold there and sunny everywhere else, this way i'll have reasons to go to those places with some friends

thanks. i'm pretty bummed, i was planning on going tomorrow on a rented bike (marin mountain something), but i was unable to find a truck to rent. i guess they're all booked up cause of memorial day weekend. tried zip car, budget, dollar, avis, f'ing everyone. lame

place that sells car racks doens't open to till 10 am, we were plannign on leaving at 8 am.

if i buy, i was hoping to get something for around 2000, i've been zeroing in on the canonndale rize 5. seems like the low end of a good line. i'm going to be buying with a friend, we're hoping to negotiate price since we'll be buying 2 at once.

but if we don't go that route, i will probably take you up on your offer to help out, thank you.

that's if i end up enjoying it. plan is to try it with a rented bike and if it rules then to buy one.
