I think they left the door wide open for Sean to get back into the series. They just said if I'm not mistaken "first so and so and then Dad.." not specifying if he died or if he just disappeared on some adventure or something. I'd like to see him back in the picture.

i think he is dead. i mean why would he look at the picture like that. besides the idea for the next one is shia lebouf becoming the main character then harrison ford would be his zany dad ala last crusade

because he misses his dad because of some unknown yet unfavorable circumstance ; they did not brick wall Sean Connery out of the series by saying he's dead one way or the other.

I'd imagine they didn't come out right and say "HE'S DEAD" to leave open the faintest glimmer of hope that he could come back but I mean seriously - if he didn't come back for this one I don't see why he'd come back for the Shia reboot.

Thumbs down

This was really disappointing. Harrison Ford appears to have lost any ability to act. He spits off his lines as if making the movie is boring him. The nuclear bomb sequence was humorous, but ridiculous. Shia swinging from the vines followed by the monkey attacks was just horrible. Something just doesn't click with Indiana Jones being involved in a plot consisting of aliens. A lot of the areas in the movie are left unexplained (so those guys in the graveyard just hangout there 24/7? And they don't seem like the type to be frightened off by a gun.) The only bright spot is that the 20-30 minutes worth of chase scenes and fight sequences are really good. If action and visually stunning CGI effects are what really makes a movie good in your eyes, you'll probably like this. If you're hoping for quality plot lines like the ones in the first three movies then prepare to be disappointed.

The CGI ruined the warehouse scene for me. I couldn't pay attention to the movie, all I could think about was how I could see the point where the setpieces ended and the green screen started. That, along with the aforementioned CGI monkeys, groundhogs, ants, crazy mayans on trees, nukes, and aliens made me dislike the movie all the more.

It really wasn't a BAD movie, I just think that if you aren't an Indiana Jones fan already you're going to be left wanting more.

jones sr. is dead.

connery probably won't be alive by the time indy 5 rolls around. i'm pretty sure the reason he didn't return for a cameo is for health reasons

during the anti climactic ending, right after the alien thingy takes off indy says something along the lines of "dad looking down and smiling" blah blah. So its pretty much confirmed he is dead

Dug Skull alot, I'd say it takes the adventure and discovery of Radiers, it has the family dynamic of Last Crusade, and it's weird as fucking shit like Temple of Doom.

Liked the aliens because if the first 3 movies were more about the adventure serials of the 30s and 40s, this has a 50s sci-fi movie vibe replacing the "mystical treasure" element. Like opening with the nuke blast, this is an Indy movie from the atomic age. Also, aliens rule and the anti-gravity shot of the flying saucer was amazing.

Also, this was the first movie in over a decade where Harrison Ford didn't suck. A decade!! And he's totally energized in this one - and Indy's first reveal was perfectly iconic.
