I saw it!

It was pretty sweet. Last half hour goes completely to shit but it was pretty kick-ass otherwise. Yeah!

Yeah there's a lot of doom and gloom in this thread. I thought the movie was great and just what an Indiana Jones movie should be... a big budget well crafted homage to the old adventure b-movies. Plenty to enjoy about this movie. You saw every plot "twist" coming a mile away, but it was thoroughly enjoyable nonetheless with likable characters, dialogue, and clever action. People are so disappointed when their unrealistic expectations aren't met. For those people, please go and watch A New Hope again and tell me it's the same movie you've built it up in your mind to be.

Really it's weird because while the alien stuff was hands down the most awful part of it, it wasn't really because of the aliens, per se, I don't think. I think what helped a lot for me was that Indy himself was skeptical, or at least acted skeptical. But the aliens alone weren't what made the storytelling at the end collapse.

I was confused when they were traversing the treacherous Amazon and suddenly they're plunging down Iguazu falls.... located thousands of miles south on the border of Argentina/Paraguay/Brazil. That was weird, but I think the alien ending reminded me of the ending of Raiders a bit. Oh-- and Sean Connery's a little bitch for not appearing in this movie.

That wasn't Iguanadon Falls, it was a waterfall that had never been discovered by civilization before.

Iguazu. I GET your point, but when it's a widely recognized landmark it's a bit hard to suspend your disbelief. They might as well have gone over Niagra.

I thought it was great fun. Except the last ten minutes or so. Anyway, the only thing I could think about was the kick ass ride Universal Studios in Orlando or wherever (hopefully) will make in the honor of this movie.

Disney owns the rights to Indy attractions, there's a ride in California and a show in Florida.

K look, for all who haven't seen godfather 3, don't even bother with it.

Godfather Part 2 is amazing though.

In honor of the new one? I saw the old show, but I kept thinking that this would make for a great water ride.

I still don't get how no one ever batted an eye when the Ark of the Covenant was melting people's faces off, people were getting their heart ripped out and surviving, and the Holy Grail was allowing people to live for hundreds of years and healing mortal gunshot wounds...but now somehow aliens are just totally implausible for the reality of Indiana Jones. (I did like, however, that it seemed that whenever Cate Blanchett's character ever tried to do "psychic" stuff it always failed as Indy laughed at how ridiculous it was...so it's not that the movie is in a total fantasy land.)

The only thing I didn't really like about the way they handled the alien thing was the way that they couldn't just let it sit at them just being space aliens. They had to be from another dimension...whatever the fuck that means. Other than that, I thought the movie was a good old fun Indiana Jones movie. I doubt in the scheme of things it'll be as beloved as Raiders or Last Crusade, but it's not out of place in the series.

i saw it, it was okay. there were parts i liked, parts i didn't. the aliens didn't really bother me, every indy movie has had some kind of supernatural element. the lighting looked really weird at times. I don't think they had a reason to make it, i think it is clear they did it for the money. I think George and Steven have lost touch with how to make a movie anymore. for example, the monkeys in this movie were ridiculous and a lot of things seemed force. However, there are spots where it all works well. that said, 2 small groups of people walked out of the showing i was at and i honestly i can't blame them. also, the crowd i was with, no one laughed, no one really had any reaction to the movie, everyone just kind of got up and left.

It was also kind of lame that they were searching for the city of gold and they were doing the same in national treasure 2. take it, that wasn't the main point of indy 4 like NT 2, but still. Indy 4 played like a slightly better NT2, fuck i think NT 1 might have been better, i don't know.

Alot of this movie just didn't make sense. What was the point in the intro scene? Why did indy have to be in the nuclear bomb testing place? Why the monkeys? Why the anti climactic ending? Otherwise I thought it was decent. Last Crusade is still the best though.

-the russians brought him to the nevada desert in order for him to locate the crate in the hangar.
-he escapes, running into the desert, whereupon he stumbles into the nuclear testing town.
-i don't know about the monkeys. why not.
-endings of stories/films are often anti-climactic....the "denouement", resolution, whatever....wraps it all up.

Just saw it. I have to say that overall I was really pleased. There were a few parts I had a problem with, but for the most part I thought it was really good.

Problems:
-Mutt swinging on vines was fucking retarded
-They had to fucking show the alien. I was with the whole alien thing until Lucas decided he had to show the thing, AND YOU KNOW IT WAS LUCAS and not Spielberg.
-Ending was pretty anticlimactic. Last 20 minutes or so kind of fell apart for me.
-Seems odd sitting next to the others. Granted it was much better than Temple, the ending of Crusade was so good and complete that this feels like it opened a big incomplete hole in a really good story that formerly had closure. If that makes any sense.
-Big thumbs down to Jones Sr. being dead, I actually felt sad when they said that.

Other than that this is classic Indiana Jones. A little too much CGI, weird not seeing Indy use his gun at all, but a very solid movie. Glad it was made, hope for a fifth.

lucas used to use his technology to create bigger and better things. he uses it as a crutch now and has run out of good ideas. he doesn't even use it that well

The only two "big" CGI moments I can remember are the nuclear blast and 2 minutes at the end of the climax with the ship taking off. It wasn't bad like Star Wars either where you cringe at how fake things look. The groundhogs and monkeys were the only things that looked blatantly fake to me.

my only real problem with the movie was how they wrote marion back into the series. unlike raiders, she was pretty much just a cardboard cut-out in this one.

during the first hour i was thinking "this is easily better than Temple and Crusade"... but once they get to south america, its basically indy and mutt going through wacky and zany stunts with other cardboard characters (ones that were more or less unecessary)

as for the CGI, i don't see why people are complaining. it was used as needed and didn't hinder the film in any way. in fact, the film was gorgeous.
as for the aliens/crystal skull, i thought it was pretty standard indiana jones fare.

so yeah, it was good. it's just that the characterization was a bit off, making it more cartoony than i'd like.
