Also started reading this Harper Collins study bible. It's got some bitchin footnotes to talk about all the different possible meanings n shit.

Man that book of genesis is some wild n crazy shit. I love when Lot offers the rapists his daughters and then a couple pages later they rape him while he's overcome with wine

I just finished The Invention of Morel, which was written by Adolfo Bioy Casares and first published in 1940.

Reading it reminded me somewhat of Cat's Cradle and In the Penal Colony. Though I can't quite put my finger on why, it definitely wasn't just the island setting. Fans of either may be interested, in any case.

best bible i ever read was an oxford annotated KJV with the apocrypha taken from the vulgate (i think)

Whenever I read any cormac mccarthy I begin subconsciously to write like the worst version of him. The last time I read him I sat thereafter in the dark and held my pillow in my two arms and I felt more than smelled the rainsquall building and the sky oozed bruiseblue through the dusty blinds cocked just ajar and I knelt and I wrote in my dogeared sewer some not unpretty lines about what I thought was life but instead was the inability to see past myself.

Just awful, I'm the same way with DFW and footnotes

I've always had a tendency to really try to rein it in with all the poetic device, but McCarthy just completely goes for it and it pretty much always comes off neatly.

Thanks to this thread, I recently started Blood Meridian. If I remember correctly, Bryon suggested doing the Border Trilogy first and so I went with that approach.
