haha, it's gotta be. it's too obvious to be actually funny.

or maybe it's BECAUSE it's obvious that it gets a chuckle.

Right now I'm doing

Toni Morrison - Jazz
Amy Trudeau - The Taste of Place: A Cultural Journey into Terroir
Michel de Certeau - The Practice of Everyday Life
Thomas Keller - The French Laundry Cookbook

All at the same time for school. And I'm overwhelmed but not completely you know...dying at the same time. I think I've turned back into a brain or something, I thought I had given that up around 7th grade.

The Great Gatsby. For a university class.

D+

Had potential, but who really wants to read about snobbish rich people having affairs with each other? Annoying.

I finished off Brave New World a couple of months ago, too. I give that one a B. The future's fun to think about, but "everyone belongs to everyone else"? Sounds like Huxley just wanted an excuse to get his jollies off his own writings. I dunno. I enjoyed it, though. After I finished, I ordered 1984 and Fahrenheit 451, because I heard those were much better. I'll probably start on those this winter since I'm apparently behind on the classics.

I think that's a rather gross oversimplification.

The Golden Age - John C Wright

science fiction, very heavy on the political/philosophical discussions, so if you're into deep stuff it's worth checking out

I mean, I really enjoyed the author's style. It kept me interested throughout. But when I was finished, I'm like, "Wait. Really? That's what this whole thing comes to? So I was suckered into reading about overly lavish rich people with no self-responsibility?" Good on the Nick character for saying "screw this" and moving back to the west.

I'm really looking forward to Fahrenheit 451, though. I love Bradbury's short stories.

Has anyone here read The Book Thief? It was written by some Australian woman for young adults, so I heard. It is seriously one of the greatest books I have ever read. It's about this German girl in Munich in 1945, and is narrated by the angel of death. The writing is just, impeccable. You should read it.

Don't read Moby Dick unless you want to hear endless musings on having fun with whale sperm, sleeping with strange bedfellows/ marrying dudes you just meet.

No but seriously, there's an entire chapter on whales that just kind of lists off their physical characteristics. It's by far the most boring book ever made.

yeah, i'm having a hard time getting through it, but in a different way than A Tale of Two Shitties. there are some really good chapters sprinkled through but yeah, for the most part it's really kinda bad.

Tristessa was just ok. read in about 3 hours. i may not be familiar with kerouac's writing, seeing as this is the first book of his i have read, so maybe i'll enjoy his other stuff more.

i also finished off a small book called "Pissing In the Snow and Other Ozark Folktales", which was fun mindless stories.

don't know what i'm going to read next. perhaps just read one of the three books I have started throughout the year: a Nirvana bio by Charles Cross (likeit so far), the Complete Short Stories of Mark Twain (love them), and the Andy Warhol Diaries (meh).
