but it seriously does suck if he just makes it with jimmy because, honestly, most of the cool parts ive been hearing from these live shows and the directions they've taken the songs come from jeff. You can hear it in that shaker song, where they're trying to make something atmospheric. you can hear jeffs cool tone floating like the breeze and then billy comes in with the squealing pseudo-metal sound and it's weird. If anything, billy needs to let jeff program his tones.
first off, i think billy could do it easily, if he wanted to....but i totally agree that jeff's contruibution is pretty awesome these days. have you heard the newest show on LMA? Berling 02-23?

Its great, sound quality wise and performance wise. Jeff outdoes himself.

But I think the assessment that people only buy individual songs is pretty false, everyone I know sticks to buying albums.
i'm with you, but i don't think its 100% true. i have noticed blender, spin, billboard, etc. all starting to rank top songs like they used to do with billboard top 40, but now more predominantly than album reviews/rankings.

But honestly, with the Pumpkins and Billy's tendency to leave many great songs off the album, you can basically compile your own album. God knows I have my own version of Zeitgeist.

I'm also hoping this "freedom" will allow them to record whatever type of material they want, without the fear that it may not be radio-friendly.

Disappointing. Bitterly.

Zeitgeist only went Gold and Billy is mortally embarrased and internally enraged. His fragile ego just took a battering, so he's going to punish the fans by sulkily not doing any more albums.

So what now? An annoying trickle of vaguely related and over-priced songs on Itunes to set up a tour with too many musicians crowding the stage?

FFS.

And to think of the shit fans have to put up with, forgiving BC virtually all of his long list of personal failings, supporting the money-grubber in even his lamest projects.

This thing is becoming a farce, and quick too.

Still, somehow, I know I'll be a sucker and get whatever SP release. Why? I don't know...

i really dont think billy is embarrassed that zeitgeist went gold. he has a big ego built up with his body of work, but its not exactly a fragile one. whether or not youve enjoyed his latest endeavors, its pretty hard to come up with other artists that have tried so many different things with their music, not to mention his participation with other performers and the songs he churned out for other musicians. billy has been saying for a long time that the album format isn't the same as it was in the 90s.. i really dont see this idea as coming from a broken ego.

I just wish Billy would stop doing "what people want" (or what he thinks people want) and "what fits the market/industry as it stands today" and make the music HE wants, released in the format HE likes most. These interviews sound more like company reports than musicians' press releases. Gngh.

i like the idea of lots of music often. I mean, I can see why people like caine walker or eulogy would be disappointed in not having full albums, I can certainly see the appeal of that (and the idea of them NEVER putting out albums again is kinda ). But I'm a terribly impatient person, and the idea of getting frequent new music makes me happy. Even though i fucking hated AG.

so three to five more people onstage?

at least one more guitar
organ/keys
dedicated percussionist? (definitely not a second drummer)
violin/cello?
trumpet/sax?

This is what I thought to be the most interesting part. I'd love to see them have a small strings section, think of how amazing songs like Tonight Tonight, Disarm, Tear, etc. could be with some live strings. They could also work their way into many other songs well, eg. Porcelina.
