Default Why do so many people like Linkin Park?

Didn't their latest album hit #1 in like 16 countries? I find this depressing.

I don't understand... and this isn't even because I'm mad that the Pumpkins don't sell that many records anymore, because I know some smartass will suggest that here.

I'd say it's just a bunch of stupid 15 year olds eating up the albums, but 10 years ago, 15 year olds were listening to Linkin Park, who are now 25...

the 15 year olds that listened to linkin park 10 years ago probably stopped after a year.

no one likes this band once they listen to other music, record sales just mean a bunch of kids that don't know better yet are buying their music.

No, you'd be surprised how many people well into their 20's still enjoy their music

One's right here, well their first two albums (Hybrid Theory, Meteora) at least. I started to get turned off by 'em when they did that album remixing with Jay-Z, and I didn't like the fact that they essentially turned into a conventional rock band, mostly using just guitars and drums on the latest album, Minutes to Midnight. Shadow of the Day is the only track I really like from it, the rest of the album doesn't do anything for me partly because they don't have that electronic element they had on previous albums.

Everything they've done has always sucked. They have absolutely no talent and there's way better bands that write way better "I pity myself" songs.

my only real contention with linkin park is the fact that they were basically put together by a record company and that they've become very formulaic. but let's be straight here- Hybrid Theory is a great record. the guitar riffs are cool, the lyrics aren't really bad at all (maybe a little too self-reflective and overly serious but never cheesy imo) and all the song structures and arrangements and electronicky parts totally check out. "rap-metal" really should be a hated genre by definition but LP have a great sound and for what its worth i think they sortof look like a good unit. plus i like their vaguely sci-fi/anime influence. hybrid theory was a really defining record at the turn of the millenium and while i haven't listened to it in years, if i'm out shopping or something and somebody's playing it i can totally get into it.

also they should have kept their original name Xero

I remember I was bored one day and read a magazine article interviewing there guitarist about there latest album. I loved when the interviewer asked him about how a lot of their songs sound similar and what they did about that for the new album. The guitarist responded that he tried playing with different guitars and amps.

The problem ain't the equipment, it's cause you suck.

And on that note Linkin Park fucking suck.

haha i think i read the same interview. the guitarist was a boring douchebag. what was worse though was the magazine asking him to smash a guitar for the cover shoot (he was too pussy to do it cause he thought he'd hurt his wrist, so they gave him a pre-broken one) and when they asked him why he doesn't play any solos or shred, and he replied by making the unfunniest joke ever about how he was working on a triple-cd album of pure shred guitar. L-O-L.

I always thought Chester Bennington had a great singing voice and would be much better off putting out Depeche Mode type stuff. His voice seems more suitable for soft electronic type music.

I saw a video of their drummer unable to play the most simplistic of stuff. Bragging about merging what would typically be difficult parts (for him) together using software. Basically he can't play the transition in one take so he stops in between the parts, then puts them next to each other in protools or whatever. The beat was the most simplistic thing ever.

Yeah, for yourself. Some call it musical taste/preference. And it's not some action that requires tallying out a list of pos and neg, for most.

hardly anyone listened to linkin park 10 years ago

people who were 13 seven years ago do listen to them nowadays though. most people i know never "grew up" music-wise or anything. they just listen to what they've always listened to because they are too lazy/uninterested to check out new stuff.

also linkin park were not put together by a record label.
