I'm in the process of remodeling our home. I've been meeting with contractors and getting estimates for weeks. can't wait for this shit to be over. All new electrical, all new hardwood flooring, new kitchen, furnace and AC. And once that's done painting every single room in the house.

Also, doing some minor to moderate landscaping in the back yard. Put up 100' of fencing last weekend. And I'm getting ready to plant Milkweed (for Monarch habitat) and two dozen raspberry bushes.

I'm coaching my son's soccer team. We did defence drills tonight. Our defenders are basically our less aggressive players and by the end of training, I saw huge improvements in their confidence and far fewer goals scored by our strikers. So that's good. Because we lost the last game 10-1.

Amazing how many of them have to be told to keep their eye on the ball, and the near immediate improvement that follows. A lot of them are really bright and able to focus, but just haven't known what to focus on, before now. It's a very life-giving feeling, yelling directions sternly - and seeing their little faces concentrating so hard. And then cheering for them when they get it right and watching their faces light up with confidence and pride.

Most coaches are Dads who work full time and turn up to run the boys around the pitch and get them to shoot goals...but actually our club's A team in this age group has been coached by two mums who watch youtube videos to learn what to do. Nobody volunteered to coach our team so I figured I'd give it a go, given what I knew about the A team, and also because I played soccer for 5 seasons in my youth. So I researched drills online for a couple of hours, and picked ones that I thought would work well with our team and the research is really paying off. It's a lot of fun, actually. I didn't expect that.
