My biggest fear today was leaving out the most important details in my recent work history and what i have done for the district rather than for my own store. I think i did pretty well. A few questions i think i was too vague on and needed to give specifics, but i tried to rectify this on the following interviews. i ended up having 5 people interview me: the Director of Retail Ops, my Boss, a new SoCal DM, the east coast regional, and a rep from HR.

I will find out on friday whether or not i got the job. if i don't get it, today was great anyways. Great exposure at corporate as well as a learning experience withthe upper retail management interview process. Our new corporate office is pretty damn awesome too--a glass display hallway with product, ads, and other various bits and pieces from Vans' 40+ year history, a skate ramp built for employees to skate on breaks, mini store built into the retail area to test placement of product in stores, and tons of imagery everywhere. The lunch room has skateboard decks with screen printed characterizations of Vans higher ups and legends from Matt Groening himself (we did a limited edition simpson line for the release of the movie).

Sounds like you did a good job Gil...if nothing else your attitude is spot on in that even if you don't get the job this time around it will certainly bode well for future promotion opportunities.

Thanks. This is exactly what I wanted to have if they decide to go with the other manager applying or look for an external candidate-exposure. So if things don't work out, I already have more projects coming my way that can help me later down the line. I am already helping retail operations create a Vans outlet-specific new store opening manual (because outlet stores are an entirely different beast compared to full price/mall stores) as well as being a co-leader in the upcoming Houston Premium Outlets new store opening.

Yeah it is definitely cool. All corporate employees had to sign a waiver, including those who would never be caught dead skating in it. The work environment there just seems really relaxed and fun.
