I'm kind of surprised she's still alive. JFKjr was a very good looking man...his plane crash into the ocean was always strange.

It's 2 am, I'm doing image searches on the Kennedy family and a car just drove very slowly past my building.

Numbers finally released. They ... aren't good. This plan cannot succeed unless young people sign up in large numbers.

Quote:
WASHINGTON — The administration says fewer than 27,000 people managed to enroll for health insurance last month in the 36 states relying on the problem-filled federal website for President Barack Obama’s overhaul.

The dismal numbers released Wednesday by federal health officials were even lower than estimates recently circulated. There was one bright spot: States running their own websites did better than the feds, reporting more than 79,000 sign-ups.

Even so, total private insurance enrollment after the first month of the health care rollout was only about one-fifth what the administration had expected during that time period.

Enrollment numbers totaled 106,185. A Sept. 5 administration estimate had projected that 494,620 people would enroll in the first month.

And we have about a month left to reach the deadline. Time to send out the navigators.

No, that's just if you want insurance by Jan 1st, the hard deadline is March 31st. Most of the low risk people who wouldn't be getting insurance anyway won't be signing up until close to then.

There are a lot of people whose plans will end before the new year. Looks like this will be a rough transition for some. The gov site says coverage "can" start Jan 1, however,

Some rights and protections don’t apply yet

No matter how you buy insurance before the Marketplace opens, be aware that some protections and benefits of the health care law are not yet in effect and may not apply to your coverage.

You may be denied coverage, charged more, or have certain kinds of care limited or excluded if you have a pre-existing condition.
Women may be charged more than men.
Plans do not have to offer essential health benefits, so it’s very important to find out what each plan covers and excludes.
You won’t be able to get lower costs based on your income, as you might be able to with a Marketplace plan.

This pretty much sums up what will happen to natives

The US government has treaty obligations to care for the well-being of Native Americans, but may soon abandon many of its legal responsibilities. President Obama’s health care reform will force thousands of Native Americans to purchase their own health insurance or pay a minimum fine of $695 to the Internal Revenue Service. Indian health advocacy groups estimate up to 480,000 people will be affected, AP reports.

Only those who can prove that they are “Indian enough” will be exempt from the mandate. Native Americans will have to show documentation that they belong to one out of 560 tribes that are federally recognized by the US Bureau of Indian Affairs.
http://rt.com/usa/obamacare-native-a...insurance-333/

So for some time, there's going to be some red tape for many to go through.

Today very well could be the first day of the dismantling of the ACA, and it has nothing to do with the GOP. Weird.

Actually he saved it from being dismantled, he just undercut one of the two(even remotely) legitimate problems with it without really changing anything. Assuming the website is in order in a couple of weeks there won't be much to be said against the law that hasn't already been beat to death. Unless another real problem rears it's head in the near future, there's no real threat to the law now.

Credit to a buddy for this info.... Within 45 days, this had to occur:

- Insurance company needs to figure out if they even want to offer these plans anymore
- Then they need to decide any changes in pricing/coverage/network/deductibles for each plan
- Notify all effected policy holders
- Sign up the policies
- Make sure their systems are correct and able to monitor/process
- Have 50 Meet you on State insurance commissioners approve pricing

This could happen if Obama put the hammer to insurance companies, but as the law shows they have no desire to do so.

The law needs major fixes. It probably has to be rebuilt instead of patched. Maybe it can then address one of if not the biggest problem - the insurance companies themselves.

problem with that is the only media narrative right now is "web site broken" or "some people mad".

the only way the ACA gets dismatled is if there's a clear alternative. The GOP isn't offering one. If progressives were smart they'd be saying to anybody in the media that will listen that single payer (medicare for everyone) would make all of this nonsense go away.

they obviously had lobbyists convince everyone that a public option was way way bad and then told them if we made everyone buy private insurance the rates would naturally go down lol elementary economics hehe and then after this was made reality, there was no price controlled government option to create a floor and a mandate that all people would need to purchase insurance. at this point these greedy capitalist pigmen decided to raise rates across the board since now there was no other option and they are more than likely have horozontally integrated and are untouchable because of their significant political donor status.

they basically created a way for them to cash in through political contributions and lobbyists, dismantled and discredited the only price control option that is feasable, and are now masturbating onto piles of cash money gleaned from the misery of others

our government is hopelessly corrupt, america is the worlds largest banana republic. eventually we're going to have to confront this and stop acting like the legislative and executive branches are some how not completely compromised and wholly corrupt

Midterms going heavily to the GOP would really put a target on the legislation.

The single payer system is the only way it'll work. Medicare for everyone will work if phased correctly, but that argument can't be won IMO and with Obama looking so poorly it's even less likely at this point.

Yup - perfect summation. Problem is the administration was arms-locked in tow with them. The legislation proves that point pretty well.
