Statistically smoking is safer than suicide.

BTW:

Quote:
A liver enzyme known as CYP2A6 is responsible for breaking down nicotine. As any committed smoker knows, when your body runs out of nicotine you will immediately begin to crave another cigarette. Devices such as the "patch" and nicotine gum try to prevent these smoking cravings by maintaining steady nicotine levels in a smoker's system.

According to Tyndale, the more of this enzyme your liver produces, the faster nicotine is cleared from your system. As a result, people who only produce small amounts of the enzyme tend to smoke fewer cigarettes and find it easier to quit than people who produce large quantities, because nicotine stays in their bodies longer. There is also evidence that people with low levels of this toxin-busting enzyme are less likely to develop nicotine addiction in the first place. So smokers are essentially caught in a paradox - the better your body is at getting rid of nicotine, the worse your addiction will be.

Rather interesting. Your experience with Chantix sounds similar to mine KS. You will soon reach the point where you've just had enough with it. I'm more than a month out and I only ever think about smoking when I'm having a beer or two and around other smokers. Other than that smoking has completely lost the appeal.

i stopped smoking for a while during the summer but i've started again. i generally don't buy any of my own cigarettes anymore and just bum them from friends if they're around.

Yeah it's really weird, to say the least. I quit once before cold turkey, for almost a whole year - so I know what the withdrawl symptoms feel like and I'm definitely feeling them today. I've been sitting here chewing on my lips and fingers so much that my jaw is sore, and I can't seem to get rid of this headache, I feel antsy and ready to tear my hair out...

I can easily see how this is going to turn out, like you said you just get fed up with it. Because I could go outside right now and have a cigarette, but I know from the last day that it won't help anything. When before doing it cold turkey, I would've ran outside right now to have one and sunk down on the street with this euphoric grin on my face, then proceeded to smoke one after the other and never quit. I'd go out there now and smoke half of it, feel gross and just end up putting it out and coming back up here.

I'm kinda worried though because I don't have a full supply, I got them from my friend (long story). I think I have 2 more weeks of pills left and today is my first full week on it. Do you think I'd be okay? I mean, as long as I stay away from smokers for a few months I know I'll be okay, I just have to get my body rid of the nicotine without losing my sanity...and that only takes a few days - at best a couple weeks, so I'm hoping I'm right and it works out.

if you drink large amounts of alcohol - which is also cool, by the way - your liver will eventually fail to produce this nicotine-enzyme and you will be freed from your cigarette addiction.

to the brewery!

Cigarettes are $8 in the city, $6 in the suburbs, $4-5 if you go out of Cook county.

We have a state(Illinois)-wide smoking ban that went into effect 1/1/08 and they enforced it at midnight on New Year's...lol So all the party people had to go outside after midnight.
