they knew it by the time i was three. but they didn't call it that back then. i've been through massive occupational therapy on top of speech therapy, physical therapy and one on one academics. as a kid i had a photographic memory due to sensory integration disorder which is present in most cases. what that means is that some senses are overly sensitive due to underdeveloped other senses. i didn't hear well, so i relied on my vision. since i'm so visual, i ended up studying film and am a screenwriter.

This is probably the best advice that can be offered next to therapy and medication. I used to have an issue with anxiety myself a couple of years back. I still get it from time to time, but it's easier to control these days. Aside from not giving a fuck, if you work a fast paced job, try to work as much as you can.

it also runs in the family. my nephew has it. he's a genius. he figured out at age four or five how to set up an email account. i get this email from him that says, "hi uncle phillip, i have an email account." that's it. i call my sister immediately and i asked, "did you help him set that up?" "whaaaat?! (pause) Connor, what're you doing?!" click. hahaha. kid is too smart.

how wonderful! i think it's not correct for them to label people who are aspergers as "disordred" though, because that's how God made them. They are perfect in their own right. but i suppose they do need help sharpening other skills. like social skills, right? aspergers have difficulty with social aspects i think

definitely bad social skills. i didn't look people in the eye for years, i wouldn't speak much, got overwhelmed in groups. just bad. ironically, theatre helped cure me of that. being on stage helped me overcome that. but i still couldn't give speeches as myself for quite awhile after that.

yeah, once you "get" them, you see how they view the world. it's very interesting. my sister calls me all the time because i get him and she wants to know what i think. i remember everything as a kid. my memories go back from when i was 1. it's kind of creepy, but i think it has to do with the photographic memory.

so what's he like?

i don't have a photographic memory anymore. and actually, a lot do amount to something. it's the ones who can't get over their social disorders that unfortunately don't get far. i was lucky enough to have a lot help.

blah blah blah.

i rarely talk about this in person. gotta love the intrawebz.

i think he has a photographic memory too. he will line up his toys against the wall.. you could move the smallest one and he would go and put it back the way he left it.
my cousin said the other day he put vhs tapes in the microwave cause he saw it on the simpsons.

this is VERY common. i still get out of joint if my routine is broken. my nephew is the same. everything has to be in its place, day after day. he'll throw tantrums too. he's very sensitive to smell - my sister can't clean the house with anything that has a scent.

how old is he?

he's 8 years old.

his mom is an advocate for people with kids with disabilities now in her area because she pushed so hard to have him stay in the local public school and get the city to provide him with things he needed like a teachers aid and a private tutor for him.
