I can understand your perspective, especially in the case of polar bears. Conservation IS an important thing, but I don't think zoos are the greatest way of maintaining it. I would prefer to visit a wildlife conservation where the animals are in a controlled and natural habitat, i.e., not an urban sprawl of conrete and trash cans.

I guess the way I look at it is that it's wrong in the sense that, if the animals had a choice, there's no way they'd sit in a cage 24/7 being ogled at by a bunch of people. And since they obviously don't have a choice, my problem lies there. I don't think people who visit zoos are bad or stupid or whatever, though... I just don't personally get as much enjoyment. Can't push the bad thoughts outta my head, I guess!

I don't know if you can relate to this, but I'm always bummed out that the two-toed sloth at the Lincoln Park zoo is MIA. I don't know if it escaped or what, but every time I've been there, it hasn't been in its tree in the small mammal house. |

the toronto zoo is absolutely amazing. they have these HUGE exhibits that take forever to walk to.
my favourite was the black footed ferret: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...o/S4010049.jpg and pryzwalski's wild horse: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...o/S4010135.jpg |
