SEC computers continued...

12. Auburn
17. Florida/Tennessee
19. Georgia

Oregon/Cal/USC are 13, 14, and 23rd. take that for whatever its worth.

and who is the judge of "talent?"

USC was supposed to be head and shoulders above everyone based on "talent" assessment. didn't really work out that way.

I think they're still 3 if the alternative is lumping them in with MSU and Vanderbilt. If we're objectively rating these teams based on how good they actually are, I don't see how you can't say that Arkansas should be at least as good as Georgia, Auburn, and Alabama and almost always better than MSU, Vandy, and Ole Miss on any given day.

Granted, it's probably not going to matter by the end of the season. Arkansas has very likely packed it in by now and may very well end up in the conference cellar by the time all is said and done. But right now, I'd say that you can't consider Arkansas to be a considerably less than average SEC team, cause it just ain't so.

fair point. I admit that when it comes to the bottom of the SEC I am not as well informed. I take your judgment on that one.

You could probably call AK a tier 3b, but by definitions that we've held (and they are ours, I know) they look a lot closer to 4 than 3.

It's really close between the Pac-10 and the SEC right now, picking the pac-10 over the SEC is not the crime against college football that you are making it out to be.

Well, it's Michigan State, but technically I suppose that qualifies as a game.

You know, I watch the SEC every week, and I'd be tempted to pick Miss. State over Vandy as well. State beat Auburn purely on the strength of their defense, and they've only been blown out once (first game of the season to LSU). Both of their other losses were to better talent (South Carolina and Tennessee), and they were in both games until the 4th quarter. State played Tennessee MUCH closer than the Georgia team that Vandy played close. As an Alabama fan, I'm actually pretty worried about the Croom bowl this year.

I noticed this, too. Maybe jc is giving everyone the game because he thinks it's a foregone conclusion.

Every Monday for the past month, the local sports talk radio bigwig goes on the air and rants about how if Michigan had beaten App. State they'd be in the National Title hunt right now. I don't necessarily think he's wrong, but it is rather annoying hearing the same damn tirade week after week. One thing is for damn certain though...Mike Hart is at least a Heisman finalist this season. Say what you will about his big mouth, but he has put Michigan's offense on his back and carried the team almost single-handedly to all of their wins. If U of M wins out, I think he has a legitimate shot at it.

And Darren McFadden will still be the first RB taken in the 2008 draft.

um they lost to oregon pretty bad

i like how you scUM fans are using app state to cover up the fact that you were blown out the week after.

Oregon is a good team. I'm not covering anything up. But Michigan has progressively gotten stronger as the season has progressed since that ugly squash, and with their dismantling of Purdue this past weekend, maybe they've finally learned how to defend the spread. If they can beat the Illini (who run your beloved shotgun-option), it will quiet many who still doubt "scUM's" ability to defend against mobile QBs.

But I'm still sticking to my prediction that Illinois wins.

yeah oregon is a good team and they beat you silly so michigan would not be in the title hunt since I haven't heard anyone go "Oh oregon should play for the title." yet.

Do you assholes think you should play in the national championship game every year or what?

Illest doesn't run the shotgun option, if they ran predominantly running plays out of the shotgun they would. They run a spread. Fuck.

Huh. I thought I heard on the radio this morning they run the shotgun option. In any case, Juice Williams is going to be a pain in Michigan's ass.

Do we think that Michigan should play in the National Title every year? No more than OSU fans or Florida fans or USC fans or any other fan of a powerhouse program accustomed to being a contender.

I think that if a team gets blown out, it hopefully happens early in the season, because if the team that gets blown out wins the rest of their games, then it looks like they've improved since then. That is one thing pollsters do look at, is when teams lost games and whether or not teams have gotten better or worse as the season progresses. And as it stands now, the Ducks are a legitimate national title contender. If they run the table the rest of the way, which would in-fucking-clude wins against USC and Arizona State (assuming Az St. doesn't lose and USC doesn't lose again before Oregon plays them), I don't see how they wouldn't be at least be considered seriously for the national title game. Similarly, even considering Michigan getting blown out by the Ducks, if Michigan had beaten App. State and won the rest of their games (including back-to-back away games at MSU and Wisconsin and the big showdown with OSU to end the season), they'd be contenders as well...they probably wouldn't get in, but they'd be "contending," per se.

people on the radio think mobile quarterback + spread = shotgun option.

Oregon probably has the best loss of anyone who's lost -- questionable fumble call while going into the endzone for the tie. LSU is the only one-loss team I'd put ahead of Oregon. If Oregon wins out, I'd totally be screaming for them to be in the title game unless there's two undefeateds... and that's not my Michigan bias talking.

People keep getting this wrong. Michigan DOES NOT have a problem with the spread offense -- they have a problem with mobile quarterbacks, regardless of what formation they're in. Purdue runs a "spread offense" and Michigan thrashed them because Painter can't move. QBs who can run are like kryptonite to that team, and it's ridiculous the coaches haven't prepared the team for it yet after OSU last year.
