Yeah, and I worked at a resort course so I'd be tending to rich assholes from New York and Massachusetts all day long. It was awesome! Oh yeah, and they were all evil.

I once tipped my pizza delivery guy with awkwardly scripted sexual innuendo, a saucy strip tease, and a 4 cameraman porno shoot in a warehouse in Van Nuys.

I mean personally, it all comes down to this: why are you working there if it's so shitty? I mean, you COULD get a summer job as a server, you could get a summer job at a fast food restaurant. You could get a summer job at pretty much any other place, making at least minimum wage yet you choose to work at some shitty paying, sometimes humiliating job for what?
it didn't suck because the vast majority of people in the world don't have outlooks like you people. it WOULD be shitty if everyone was like you. but they aren't.

my boss was awesome and the job wasn't bad and i made decent money. but only because i delivered to people with some comprehension as to how food delivery works.

If the place is busy I can understand that, but my food better not be cold when it gets here. As for it being far away, most places have a select area they deliver to and if my house is too far to get a hot meal to, don't deliver here.

here's how this should be handled, in my opinion. you get your cold food, which sucks. but ultimately, it is very, very, very rarely the driver's fault. so to penalize him is irrational. i'm sure it's not the same in the city, but i sometimes delivered to places that weren't even on maps yet. ...but we have bags to keep the food warm, and generally, they work very well and i never delivered cold food even it did take longer than expected. but anyway, why penalize the driver for something beyond his control? you can understand if the place is busy, but you will still penalize the driver if your food is closed? you should call the restaurant, tell them the problem, and if it's anything like the place i worked at, they will give you a credit or send you more food and make sure it's hot and delivered to you quickly. just fucking over the driver because the restaurant is busy is pretty shitty, if you ask me.

and one time, a guy ordered a pizza, was told it would be there within an hour, and i got there in about 48 minutes, and he asked me if i got lost.

but he still tipped me.

Don't get me wrong, I still tip, I just don't tip as much as I would a server. I don't think you work as hard and have to put up with as much shit. They get shitty tips just as much as you guys do...and sometimes they even get people who walk out on the bill and a lot of times they have to cover that. You get to drive around in your car listening to music and rocking out, talking on your phone and doing whatever the fuck you want to so long as you get the pizza to the house on time. You're doing your job, for that I don't think anyone deserves a tip but since the system is shitty and they don't pay you what they should, I give usually $2-$3 for delivery people.

If it's worth getting fucked over every once in a while so long as you make your big bucks anyway I don't see why you'd whine about it. There's shitty things about everyone's job, you either suck it up and deal with it or you quit and find a better job. So stop whining about it...that's all I'm saying.

But seriously, the whole tipping thing is ass-backward. If you're going to tip someone for simply bringing your food from point A to point B, why shouldn't I get tipped for loading tons (yes, tons) of wood pellet fuel onto the back of someones pickup truck, bag by bag, by myself, outside in the cold?

I've worked at the same place doing the same thing for four years and I think I've received a total of 10 dollars in tips. If you're going to fork over money for some schmuck to escort your food, throw me a bone every once in awhile you faggot fucks. I can't tell you how pissed I get when some 30-something douchebag sits back and watches me load four-thousand pounds of shit into the back of his truck without offering to help.
sucks, bro

but i guess that's included in the delivery charge which goes toward your pay?

If you're a delivery person, you're not doing as much as a server and therefore deserve less than what I would give a server.

If that's too shitty for you, chalk it up to having a shit job and suck it up or find a better job. Those are my principles.

I mean shit, in real estate an agent can work with a buyer for months, showing them house after house after house - taking up their gas and their time and effort...and then the buyer turns around and decides to buy a different house with their cousin who's an agent. That first agent is screwed out of a few thousand dollars not to mention they don't get any compensation for their time and gas. It's part of the job. Just like getting shitty tips when working for tips is part of the job. Just like getting screwed out of a commission when you work for commissions. If you can't accept that, get a job that pays minimum wage or salary.

i already told you what would make more sense for everyone involved if your food is cold.

again, i don't think i ever delivered cold food. the longest time i ever took was a really big order...and there was really just no way around it. but it was still hot (if you're ordering from places that can't keep their food hot, well, you probably should stop ordering from them), and the woman was annoyed but repeatedly assured me that SHE UNDERSTOOD IT WAS NOT MY FAULT as i profusely apologized. and she gave me a fine tip. because she actually gets it.

I agree that getting shitty tips is part of the job, but I'm not going to be the one doing it. Just because bad tips are part of the job makes it ok to give a bad tip? When I delivered I was 19 and just trying to give my parents some money and get a half eighth on the weekends.

I don't tip at a bar or something. Restaurants: sure thing. But then again, at most bars you have to get your drink at the bar yourself anyways.

Do you know why you get tips in your shitty job and everyone else who performs a service doesnt? Because snot-nosed little shits help propogate the belief that folks food is being held to ransom.

You arent doing anything fucking noble you fucking drama queen and anyone who doesnt tip you is a fucking hero.

I hate those tip jars at Starbucks and sandwich shops and pretty much anywhere nowadays. Why should I tip someone for making my sandwich which they're paid to do? I never get tips for doing my job, why should I tip someone for doing their job.

But other than that, I tip delivery drivers, servers, and valet people quite well because you should.

yeah, not giving money to someone who might be a father of 3 working friday and saturday nights to make living a little more comfortable is certainly heroic. i worked with a lot of guys in that situation, and they really relied on tips to give them some breathing room. i didn't make the rules, but breaking them to prove a point is only punishing the people on the job, which is really, really shitty.

i really can't believe you people.

i can understand people being frustrated with the way the service industry works. but to think that you can fix it by not tipping the people who work in those jobs is awful.
